23:25 It’s 100% about it being a threat. Jace spoke about this last season. Raising up bastards, legitimizing them, giving them dragons etc. Jace thought despite his hair being black he could argue his legitimacy because he had a dragon but he knew Rhaenyra giving commoners dragons would threaten that by giving them the same legitimacy. Then consider those commoners having the white hair already. Rhaenyras son might have the better claim but others may draw more support being seen as “true” Targaryens.

we have seen the real Daeron in episode 1 he looks like Alicent he is like 16 alot of reactors keep thinking 40yr old Ormund is Daeron lol and Daemon should not have let that dragon stay with the Hightowers even a small dragon can defeat a army

Cassandra

17:36 so a woman grieving her child means she is going mad? funny how people never thought the same of Aegon after Jaehaerys death

Screentime with Phil and Erika

I mean.. the comment was about turning up the madness. There wasn’t much room to turn up with Aegon. We already knew that man was unhinged. This is about the stark difference in character from one episode to the next. It’s not about whether or not she has valid reasons for feeling it. We have also already seen her lose a child in this series — we didn’t see her seeing ghosts then.

respectively disagree with Phil on the ep! I fall more in line with Erika's takeaways Rhaenera has eyed it for a long time but is immediately presented with ten million things, as would make sense especially since the previous kings didn't do anything at all for the commonfolk. In terms of the small folk not working for it, their children are starving and the rich were living completely fine. As Rhaenera said, would they not have done the same? The plundering of the noble houses is a calculation that the devotion of the smallfolk and their interpretation of the symbol outweighs the nobles getting sacked of like, some of their wealth so people can live. She's far from perfect, making a lot of mistakes, but to me it totally makes sense. She's ashamed and terrified. Things have never been more real. I don't see this at all as this being the madness turned up. I don't even think she's mad rn, she's grieving two sons and can't trust anyone and in a crazy position of power. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the season, but especially Knight of the Seven Kingdoms when you get to it!

I agree with both sides to a degree - Yourself and rhaenyra are absolutely valid in that the smallfolk have had it rough and been ignored, and whilst they starved, lords in the city stockpiled food they didn't need. And so what they got here was morally justified. However it's a bad move politically, when you're already on very thin ice. Lets just remember, Rhaenyra has absolutely 0 experience or skill at governance. She served as viserys' cupbearer in small council meetings for the most part when younger, however fled to dragonstone and lived out a good few years, only returning when viserys was on the brink of death. Meanwhile the greens have been successfully running the realm for decades, they have legitimacy in their rule simply from "well its all been fine until rhaenyra tried to push her claim". Remember the world is already hesitant to support rhaenyra, despite sworn oathes because she is a woman. Her best bet really should have just been to follow Daemons lead, make the hard, brutal short term choices to secure long term stability and leave no doubt that she can rule with the same strength as a king. In this move with the lords, she's severing tens of bridges with people of influence in the city that could support her and help manage the situation, instead she immediately makes an enemy of them all. This is doubly a problem since she doesnt seem to have an actual plan, and doesnt have the political knowledge of the city to understand how to overcome her problems, she NEEDS to rely on those around her that know what they're doing. I support Rhaenyras claim, however she needs to understand she is a child playing at politics, she has no credible experience, she fought for the crown because she was named heir, yet it doesnt feel like she's spent these years actually preparing as an heir to take power, it feels more like she went on a long vacation with uncle-husband, waiting for her dad to die so she could come in, wear a crown and enjoy the position, seemingly forgetting that the crown is what slowly killed her dad, and that all the peace and prosperity in the realm was through his work keeping everything together, relying HEAVILY on his hand like lyonel strong and otto.

Mari

to be fair that is what the show is trying do

Mari

definitely in the end of season 2 she was different then how this season started i feel like they she had crazy eyes in the beginning of this season when she was telling the plan same with jace when he was leaving to the gullet. they are trying to do the targaryen madness thing with her.

Mari

the nobles in kings landing may be lords but are most likely just knights/ladies from the houses amongst the 7 kingdoms so they are most likely cousins or siblings or uncles/aunts to the lords and they are sent away to kings landing to represent their house. the Manderlys (the guy Rhaenyra spoke to after the feast) are northmen and the north is sworn to Rhaenyra. idk where Torrhen stands in line but the Manderlys arent going to turn her away bc of this especially since he had swore to Aegon

Mari

i understand what youre saying phil the problem lies with the source material. in GOT the source material is told as a narrative so the story is mainly built around the characters and we follow them and watch their progression throughout the story where as the source material for HOTD is written like a history book told by maesters and the story is mainly built around the individual events. that is why there was so much skipping around in the beginning. while the book has some characterizations for characters the show is basically taking ideas of characters and making them theirselves.
