The three time lines that were all converging to reach the same time were: The mole 1 week, The sea (the boat with Mark Rylance, the two boys and Cillian Murphy) 1 day and The air (The Spitfire pilots) 1 hour. By the way the voice of 'Fortis Leader' the first Spitfire pilot to be shot down was Michael Caine, another regular of Christopher Nolan films.

I've seen other reactors to this being suspicious about the extra soldier who was first seen burying the body on the beach and who never said a word until he he was in the stranded boat with the others when they were being shot at. But I think if you were a German soldier who got isolated or lost near Dunkirk, the last place you would want to go would be a boat full of English soldiers heading back to England. If you were German and were found out, you would likely be beaten to death, shot or at least thrown overboard if you were lucky, unless you were ready to risk going all the way to England to defect and try to get out of the war as a prisoner. But I think a German would more likely want to head back inland from the beach at Dunkirk, back to the German lines.

The overall timeline looks a bit compressed in this film (naturally, for a 1 hr 45 min. film) but in reality the evacuation of the British and French troops from Dunkirk by small civilian boats continued for about two weeks until they recovered about 80% of the men.

Harry Styles and the other soldier we followed from the start didn't get onto the minesweeper boat after they got off the sinking trawler before the minesweeper was bombed and sunk, but they were covered in the oil leaking from the minesweeper just by swimming through the water from the sinking trawler which was nearby, before they were picked up by Mark Rylance's boat and saved.

Oh yea it's not unusual and it was a tricky way to set up the time, but you were getting it more and more as time went on. I saw another reactor who thought that the oil burning on the water would have caused the water to boil, which was painfully wrong. The oil just burns on the surface, but as you saw in that scene, some of the survivors from the sinking boat were caught between trying to stay below the burning oil and drowning, or coming to the surface into the oil and getting burned. Personally I think I would have drowned. Less painful.

Some of the small civilian boats in the film were actually the same civilian boats that took part in the original rescue nearly 80 years earlier, that were preserved and kept running for that long.
