Dick Winters inadvertently dropped a couple of hints to who he was in what he said in the interviews shown before every episode. Before Episode 2 when he was talking about jumping into Normandy, he said "When we got the red light, I had everyone standing up..." and before Episode 7 he said "I've seen my friends, my men being killed...".

I always thought it's interesting that when the men hear about the Japanese surrender and the end of the war, there was no cheering or high-fiving or celebrating, they all just took it in for a minute and went back to their baseball. Many of them must have been torn between being relieved to be going home and being disappointed that their Company of brothers was being broken up.
