It's fascinating to watch from a modern perspective, because although I can see the many blatant flaws in Malcolm and the NOI's way of thinking, I also understand how some people in that time period would develop that way of thinking if they're living under constant oppression and injustice.

Phil was right, that was Al Sharpton playing himself preaching in the street at about 1 hr. 30 mins.

I grew up in London, England and in my high school we had a poster with a famous Malcolm X quote in one of our English classrooms. That was my first time learning about him.

When Malcolm is talking about his pilgrimage to Mecca and he talks about praying with "People of all colors and all races believing in one God and one humanity" I can't help thinking, so just like Roman Catholics or Protestants or Buddhists, etc...? I could be corrected, but I also believe this was the first Hollywood film to be allowed to film at the site of the Kaaba in Mecca.

Tragedy followed Malcolm's family after his death too. His widow Betty died in 1997 after suffering critical burns in a fire in her New York apartment that was started by her 12 year old grandson.

In case anyone missed it, the woman to appear speaking in a classroom at the end before Nelson Mandela was Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King.

No it wasn’t, that was American actress Mary Alice.

Oops, I stand corrected. She looked so much like Mrs. King I assumed it was her.
