Irina and her volcanic energy π (Patreon)

These were taken on a stormy day back in March on Fuerteventura. I have a small obsession with black sand so we came back to this beach a few times. The portrait and crop shots are taken with a regular camera and me straddling a rather large boulder above Irina. The other images are obviously drone shots.Iβve shared just the crop versions of the drone shots as the rest of the image is more black sand. But the negative space does make the fuller image somehow more impactful. You might also be interested to know that black sand takes much more energy to create than regular sand. The fuller drone images cover about 1,500mΒ³ of black sand (crushed up lava), roughly 4.5 million kg. To heat and melt that much rock would take about 7.2 trillion joules, or around 2 GWh of energy. That is enough electricity to power roughly 200,000 homes for a day.And yet, despite all of that volcanic activity, I still think Irina has more energy. Just look at those eyes!
