Tarnmoor (@s_r_tarnmoor)Finally released from editing purgatory, this episode recorded in the early months of 2024 is finally available to the listeners of the Bistro Californium podcast- I'm joined by the genial Salvator R. Tarnmoor for an extended meditation on everyone's favourite Escherian insect, the humble, hardworking ant- we discuss the two great animated ant movies of 1998, touching on their place within the history of computer animation, their status as business rivals, and their significance as works of popular allegory- before turning to the more acidic (formic?) world of Michael DeForge's graphic novel Ant Colony"It's that one lump of sugar, that they won't leach each other alone""You sit on hills that they buildYou can eat me dunked in choccyAn itchI'm considered to be nasty creepy crawly""Soldiers, workers, slaves and farmersNurses, queens and dronesWish they'd leave my head tonightLet me rest my bones"
