The Complete Accomplice (2010) and The Book Lovers (2024) by Steve Aylettwith Drew Panoply (@IrenaPumices) & Gunton Blurpus (@CentipedeMouse)This episode of Bistro Californium concerns Steve Aylett's Accomplice novels, comprising Only An Alligator (2001), The Velocity Gospel (2002), Dummyland (2002) and Karloff's Circus (2004), as well his latest offering, The Book Lovers. We try to get beyond the clichés that afflict typical discussions of Aylett and do justice to his true inventiveness as one of the great innovators of modern prose- and also find time to discuss what it means for Aylett to write steampunk, and sensory significance of pasta."Woken by searchlights in a soaked field,I began to wish I had never met the mime."
