Our Ancestors: The Cloven Viscount (1952) by Italo Calvinowith Matt Sini (@teo_ess) of Getting Lit PodcastThis episode of Bistro Californium concerns the first novella in Italo Calvino's Our Ancestors trilogy (1952-159). Il visconte dimezzato was translated into English by Archibald Colquhoun in 1962 as The Cloven Viscount and concerns the adventures of an Italian aristocrat who is vertically bisected down the middle by a Turkish cannonball, continuing life thereafter as two half-men, one evil and one good.Joining me is the wonderful Matt Sini. This is our second conversation about the writing of Calvino, following my highly enjoyable appearance on Matt's show Getting Lit discussing the novella Mr. Palomar (1983) alongside the Ron Fricke film Samsara (2011). It can be listened to here.NOTE: This episode is chronologically before our crossover episode with Agitator on Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver."There is never a moonlit night but wicked notions writhe like serpents' nests in evil souls, and charitable ones sprout lilies of renunciation and dedication."
