Remembering David Thomas (1953-2025)with Will SamsonThis episode of Bistro Californium concerns the paying of a tribute to a great man, a visionary, perhaps the last American genius, and (in a way) a contributor to the tradition of the Great American novel.David Lynn Thomas fronted the band Pere Ubu from 1975 to 1982 and then from 1987 until his death on April 23, 2025. Along the way, he also pursued various solo projects including the Pedestrians, the Wooden Birds, and the two pale boys. In Ubu and in these projects he was the face, the voice and words for a music of intense poetry, vision and drama. He once was asked by a journalist what he was going to do next following the completion of an album. His reply was 'another album, another tour, another album, another tour.'David Thomas changed my life. This episode is for him. R.I.P. David.

I've not finished listening yet but so I don't forget! You both are doing an excellent tribute, particularly so shortly after David Thomas died. Re your points about his family. He said of his Mother: "[she was] an artist with the soul of a scientist. Or, a scientist with the soul of an artist." The apple doesn't fall..! As for Steve M. He was working again with David and will feature on the new album.
