I do like this episode a lot. The Christmas section of it all comes from the This Winter novella rather than the web comic, and I like the novella a great deal and think Alice did a terrific job of adapting it. It is true that as the characters are getting older, the show is becoming a little more adult, with an occasional F bomb and yes, sex. But it still is Heartstopper in the important ways. The reason we don’t see Sarah Nelson is that Olivia Colman is a very busy actor and her schedule just did not permit her to be there to film this season. And I justify not seeing her at the Christmas party by assuming she always just happens to be in a different room when all the scenes we see take place. I know I’ve certainly been at parties where there were photos taken that I never showed up in. I do get where you’re coming from about social gatherings, because I’m very much the same way – after 10 minutes or so I’m already thinking about when I can leave. I still like to be invited, even if I don’t actually want to go.
