On topic with what to do with Maztica. Im a single person, and dont share heritage with the inspiration. But in general i would love if the second sundering replaced such questionable places with lands filled with primarily non-humans. Putting the dragonborn/furry nations FAR from faerun lets the majn continent stay as the human centric high fantasy I love, but also gives a place in the realms for furry fun. It would be even better if this new area was written by people from the culture who where in those spots before. It could be properly inspired instead of copied fron irl Just a personal pipe dream. Perhaps others have even better ideas.

I do like Maztica, as it fills out the Realms theme of a earth-like world with relatable cultures. If the meso-american vibe is a bother, there are plenty of native non-human equivalents the lands of Maztica and Lopango can fill if you look at some of the earlier information on these lands.

"It would be even better if this new area was written by people from the culture who where in those spots before. It could be properly inspired instead of copied from irl". I would disagree, as in the Americas are a rich of various cultures and what few "pure" cultures left really don't exist. We are still learning a wondrous new elements on language, mythology, science, and other new discoveries through archeology. The idea that only people of a certain cultures can write these stories hurts things in the long run. Especially when you have people who have a passion for history and mythology. I know from my experience, this helped ignite my passion to learn more about said cultures. As these are just introductions to marvelous new worlds... Maztica and Kara-tur were great boxed sets that provide an introduction to new lands, and one that should allows a DM to do proper research to make good stories in these areas. Although the Box Set of Maztica follows the themes of the "Conquest of the New World", there were so many wonderful hooks introduced here.... -After the First Sundering, the Underdark beneath the Trackless Sea forced many to end up in Maztica. The drow who came to manipulate Nexlan are a major player, as well as the history of the dwarves in the deserts. What other underdark races were forced up? -The Saughin and "Devil Rays" have a large underwater kingdom along the east coast of Maztica -The Monkey King in the lands north of Maztica indicated that he helped some people Kara-Tur migrate to these lands "Volo's around the Realms" novel. -There is an ancient kingdom north of Maztica of giant ants like humanoids. -Then there is the mystery of the Wild Elves here, who are not like those of Faerun. -To the south the lands of Lopango are hinted at having connections to the old reptillian empires, possibly a stonghold of lizard people. Besides that, our IRL mythologies give us tons of others things -Giants!!! There are tons of stories of giants in the Americas. -Extra-terrestials, if you watched Ancient Aliens.... you know there are tons of theories here. This can link up to some of the mysterious beings found in Malatra, those ancient astronaughts known as the Nubari. -Cryptids. There might be a whole nation of Sasquatch up in the lands north of Maztica. Not to mention all of the other wonderful things the U.S. has of mysterious creatures -Lastly some of the ancient civilizations why have yet to fully uncover dotted throughout the Americas. We still have plenty of ruins of long lost people we know little about.
