We weren't quite sure which collection to put this one in, so we've decided to include it into Locations & Geography, Culture & Peoples, and Resources since it seems to hit on all of these points (food trends among Waterdhavians, but also a useful list to use for your games).

TABLE TALK OF WATERDEEP

Waterdeep is a cosmopolitan, crossroads trading city where fads come and go constantly, but the best or most useful get picked and exported across the Heartlands, so what’s hot in the Deep today may be a staple in Athkatla or Suzail a season later.

Whenever I'm hungry, I turn to an old Waterdhavian standard: cheese handtarts. You need a strong "hard" cheese like old cheddar, mustard, and pastry (or use a wrap). A little mustard on the cheese, enfold it in pastry, use a square of cheese to "tape" the pastry shut (when it melts), and apply heat: microwave for us, hold in the hearthfire on a coal-shovel in the Realms, tape side down. When the cheese melts (it will start to leak out), remove from heat and flip onto a plate or platter to cool. WAIT for cooling if you don't want a burned mouth! Elminster likes these with a sour ale.
