I am jumping back into Gloamingvale work! I wanted to do an illustration for the prologue, something like a title page; I've had this image in my mind for months. Sometimes when I have a really specific image in mind it can be very difficult to re-create. I've tried to do a bunch of little thumbnails in my sketchbook, but figured that this one is all in the subtle details, so a simple thumbnail didn't really get me anywhere.

Unlike most of my illustrations that focus on shapes and silhouette, this one is basically the opposite. The most important things are the atmosphere, colours and the facial expression, so it was pretty tough dealing with the beginning stages when things were largely unresolved. I had to re-start the sketch 3-4 times, but eventually was able to get the Image I was looking for. (Including the first couple of attempts for you guys haha, they are very similar but it just wasn't hitting the spot lol).

I'm planning to make this a traditional painting. Honestly I'm very nervous about it... I don't think I've ever painted anything like this before, so wish me luck! I'm probably going to use a combination of ink and gouache or something. We'll see. If the traditional painting goes poorly, I guess I'll just have to polish up the digital comp haha, but I'll try my best.

It’s SO cool to hear that someone as talented and prolific, as you, still gets nervous🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 and to hear you talking about the things that make you nervous!😂
