There may be a text error or a bug. In the storm Kirito goes through the window into his house because he can't find the key (Inoda took it from him). He doesn't call a locksmith because he wouldn't come in the storm, and the landlord isn't there because he's out. Then Asuna tries to open the door but it is locked. I would have an explanation because Kirito has forgotten to open the door from inside, or because Kirito cannot open the door without the key.
