Bass, catfish and sunfish are often living in abandoned quarries in the South. I guess all it takes is someone tossing a couple in to start a population, or possibly runoff from a nearby lake. What they had on their line didn’t look like any of those to me though.

This show is, in the end, about what is means to be not-a-zombie. What does it even mean to qualify. Is a husband that beats his wife a human? Is a racist a human? Are they worth saving? Who is considered human when push comes to shove. does it just amount to them being a literal human being or should they share common ethical behaviors, etc.

Yess. And on the opposite end. Are people that are simply protecting themselves dangerous? You have no clue what they lived prior to introduction in the show... so perhaps it is the same for any person. Maybe you assume they are danger or mean or bad, insome way. For zero reason.
