Hello there. Or maybe I should say: “Hello, RedBox… do you like scary movies? What’s your favorite scary movie?” Because that felt like the only appropriate way to start this review after listening to this audio. Holy shit. Oh my God. Okay, give me a second to collect my thoughts. Sometimes I pause audios halfway through and finish them the next evening. This one? I had to pause it after just a few minutes — exactly at the knocking sound. Jesus Christ. That knock almost made me jump out of my skin. My heart genuinely skipped a beat. The atmosphere was incredible. I actually had goosebumps and my heart started racing a little. It felt way too real for a moment. It scared me a bit. 🤏🏻 And honestly… that was pretty damn amazing. Scream is one of my all-time favorite horror movies because it plays with so many classic horror tropes and kind of mocks them at the same time. I’ve probably watched it more times than I can count. Also, Skeet Ulrich… that whole 90s neo-noir vibe? I absolutely love it. And Sydney is, in my opinion, one of the best final girls ever written. But back to the audio — because that’s what we’re here for. You genuinely scared me. Just a little, but enough that my heart actually started racing. That was a fantastic acting performance. And honestly, I sometimes feel weird constantly praising your work because it almost sounds like I’m trying to flatter you, which really isn’t my intention. I mean, yes — this is content I pay for, and obviously I do that because I enjoy it. But sometimes I almost wish I could find something where I think, “eh, that one didn’t quite land for me.” But apparently that’s just not happening. Sorry. I hope you still take me seriously when I say: this was a really intense experience. I’m actually about to turn everything off now and listen to my audiobook again — The Little Vampire Moves House — because I need something a little less threatening before going to sleep. I love horror movies. I even have a soft spot for terrible horror movies with absolutely awful IMDb ratings. Those are usually fun because you can laugh at the bad effects or the ridiculous acting. But this? This hits directly in the limbic system. And that’s the moment where I suddenly think: “Wait… I paid for this. I’m not sure how I feel about that.” (I’m laughing while writing this, so everything is fine.) Wow. Just… wow. For a moment I was a little afraid that the scene might escalate the same way it does at the beginning of the original film. I’m actually glad it didn’t, because that might have been a little too much for me. This way it stayed perfectly tense without going over the edge. I also love how unhinged Ghostface sounds sometimes. And then there are these little switches — from completely unhinged to something almost… condescending. I’m not even sure if sarcasm is the right word. But that sudden shift is fantastic. In real life a conversation like that would probably be unbearable. But for this character? It works incredibly well. And somehow that combination of madness and arrogance makes the character disturbingly… attractive. Which is weird. Anyway. That was definitely an experience. Rudolph, the little vampire, and I say: thank you — and good night, San Francisco.
