One day I was walkin', and I found this big log And I rolled the log over and underneath was a tiny little stick And I was like, "That log had a child"

The “ones that look like little ‘Xs’” are, not coincidentally, called X-wings. There are also A-Wings, which look vaguely like a flying letter “A.” The ships flying around the AT-ATs in the beginning of this film are just called Snow Speeders and are a variant of the Land Speeder that Luke drove across the landscape of Tattoine in the first film.

Yoda’s speech patterns were probably just to make him a bit more odd, but they’re actually more typical worldwide than you’d think. English is weird in a lot of ways. “I have a birthday in April” in German is stated as “I have in April a birthday.” It only seems backwards because we speak English here in the U.S.

I do feel bad for you to have had the big reveal spoiled. In this day and age, it’s pretty much inevitable unless you’re watching these as a kid like I originally did. But still, I wish you could have had that sense of utter shock most people did when it happened.

Industrial Light and Magic, the FX team was created specifically for the Star Wars franchise, set the standard for effects in film. What they accomplished was revolutionary. They were the first to actually use computer assisted cameras (not CGI, just computers that regulated camera angles and movement). But yeah, the effects and shots are incredible in ways CGI actually can’t accomplish. Things look real because they ARE real, albeit in miniature.
