Hi, Patrons! I'll be publishing this video tomorrow, or in the near future. It's a time-honored technique, but one I didn't take seriously until last night.

Read Another Language Fluently TODAY | How to use translations to master Latin, Greek, Coptic, etc.

In this video I show you a notion I've been playing with: use an English (or other teaching language) translation of a text you want to read you target language to train yourself to be a fluent reader in that language. You don't need to know much vocabulary or grammar in your target language, just enough to be able to sound it out. This is how people throughout history have mastered languages, even with minimal explicit grammar instruction and without dictionaries. In this video, I teach myself to read full paragraphs in Coptic for the first time, acquiring new vocabulary and grammar as I go. It's the equivalent of watching Anime with English subtitles (or the close that one might get). Try it yourself! Let me know if it works for you. 📚 Luke Ranieri Audiobooks: https://luke-ranieri.myshopify.com 🦂 Support my work on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/LukeRanieri ☕️ Support my work with PayPal: https://paypal.me/lukeranieri And if you like, do consider joining this channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLbiwlm3poGNh5XSVlXBkGA/join 🏛 Latin by the Ranieri-Dowling Method: https://luke-ranieri.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/latin-by-the-ranieri-dowling-method-latin-summary-of-forms-of-nouns-verbs-adjectives-pronouns-audio-grammar-tables 🏺Ancient Greek by the Ranieri-Dowling Method: https://luke-ranieri.myshopify.com/collections/frontpage/products/ancient-greek-by-the-ranieri-dowling-method-latin-summary-of-forms-of-nouns-verbs-adjectives-pronouns-audio-grammar-tables 🏛 Ancient Greek in Action · Free Greek Lessons: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLU1WuLg45SixsonRdfNNv-CPNq8xUwgam 👨‍🏫 My Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata playlist · Free Latin Lessons: https://youtu.be/j7hd799IznU 🦂 ScorpioMartianus (my channel *entirely* in Latin & Ancient Greek) https://www.youtube.com/ScorpioMartianus 🎙 Hundreds of hours of Latin & Greek audio: https://lukeranieri.com/audio 🌍 polýMATHY website: http://lukeranieri.com/polymathy/ 🌅 polýMATHY on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lukeranieri/ 🦁 Legio XIII Latin Language Podcast: https://youtube.com/LegioXIII 👕 Merch: https://teespring.com/stores/scorpiomartianus 🦂 https://www.ScorpioMartianus.com 🦅 https://www.LukeRanieri.com 📖 My book Ranieri Reverse Recall on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2nVUfqd #latin #greek #autodidact

I've been waiting for a video like this 🔥♥️

This lands as something profoundly right. Thank you.

This is a fantastic retroactive justification for the dozen or so Loebs on my bookshelf, haha! I'll try this with modern Hebrew; I've been struggling to move far beyond what Assimil and Pimsleur teach, mostly because of limited vocabulary, I think. This might be the solution. I can put the Hebrew Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy next to the English one...

Terrific! Let me know how it goes. It’s sort of a brute-force method, but it may work for a lot of people if they are motivated.

Yeah, I have the Loeb Iliad and I'm trying to get to the point where I can read enough to be able to use it like that. And in Hebrew for instance I have a Reform Jewish Haggadah that has Hebrew, and TRANSLITERATED HEBREW, and English. I am a beginner in both.

Gaudeo quod invenisti hanc rationem discendi varias linguas. Egomet usi sum rationi "bilateral translation" et soli legendi (secundum Orberg) et inveni quod me adiuvat plus altera quam prior

Thomas

ita, "bilateral translation" magis me iuvit.

Why not teach Greek in this manner; teach the prefixes. Then the roots of the major vocabulary, then how to recognize tense, mood etc endings. learn to analyse the meaningof complex words, instead of banging the dictionary. No one remembers the 200,000 Word vocabulary, or the tangled grammar. this is a really fun way to puzzle thru difficult poetry etc..
