Beginner Ancient Greek Level 3 - Thrasymachus' Catabasis Chapters 21-32 (Mon, July 7 - Mon, Sep 22)

Thrasymachus meets Homer! Homer fills Thrasymachus' imagination with wonder as he sings original verses from the Odyssey which he then explains to Thrasymachus in plain Attic prose. (In the original Thrasymachus reader, the original lines of Homer go unexplained.) The AG Level 3 course will guide you through the remaining chapters of Thrasymachus' Catabasis and introduce you to Homer's poetry in a fun way accessbile to beginners. Soon you'll be singing epic verses in your sleep, just like Thrasymachus!

The prerequisite for attendance is to have read Thrasymachus' Catabasis through chapter 20, either on your own or in a class.

The course runs for 12 lessons, 90 min each, every Monday, July 7 to September 22, conducted via Zoom.

You may choose from one of two sessions: 9am ET or 12pm ET (Mondays).

Course price: $240 minus your Patreon support level; for example, Maecēnātiānī Tier Patrons receive a $10 discount. The class size will be capped at 10 students.

Conversational Ancient Greek (Fri, July 18 - Fri, Sep 19)

Let's continue speaking Ancient Greek! The current Conversational Ancient Greek classes will conclude in June, but new ones will resume in July! Learn to express yourself in Ancient Greek, describing and interacting with the world around you through the language of Plato and Plutarch.

The prerequisite for attending this class is merely an elementary ability to read and recite Ancient Greek. If you have taken any Beginner level Ancient Greek class with me, or have read Thrasymachus' Catabasis through Chapter 10 (or equivalent in Athenaze, Logos, Alexandros, Ancient Greek Alive, etc.) and listened some audio to learn basic pronunciation, you will be able to join this course! (Intermediate and Advanced readers are naturally welcome.)

The course runs for 10 lessons, 90 min each, every Friday, July 18 to September 19, conducted via Zoom.

You may choose from one of three sessions: 9am ET, 12pm ET, or 6pm ET (Fridays).

Note that there is a new class time: 6pm ET Friday, in addition to the 9am ET and 12pm ET classes that will continue every Friday. Here is how this works:

The 9am ET and 12pm ET classes will learn to discuss new topics, which are organized into what I call Topic Block B:

TOPIC BLOCK B

Buying & Selling

Family

Speaking Languages, Communication

Rooms and Architecture

Cooking & Spices

Our Cities, Regions, & Nations

Geography, Topography, Astronomy

Weights & Measures

Home Economics

Hours & Time

If you would like to attend the 6pm ET class, we will be covering the topics that you missed from the spring session, which I call Topic Block A:

TOPIC BLOCK A

Introductions, Useful Expressions

Meals & Food

Daily Routine

Likes & Preferences

Hobbies

Yesterday, Our Past, Ancient Things

Tomorrow, Our Future, Weather

Household Activities, Jobs & Professions.

Travel - Planes, Trains, & Automobiles

Sickness & Health

It is not necessary to have attended Block A before attending Block B. Each Block is designed for beginner to intermediate readers of Ancient Greek who want to begin to speak and express themselves, with no prior conversational ability. Naturally, returning students will have had some prior experience speaking, and they will have ample opportunities to improve their growing skills in class. New students will fit right in, as each lesson is prepared to give every student the ability to begin speaking colloquially.

As a new student, you should base your choice of class on the class time (9am, 12pm, 6pm ET) that best suits you, and the block of topics you want to practice.

Please take a look at the attached schedule to get a better idea of how this is organized.

Course price: $200 minus your Patreon support level; for example, Maecēnātiānī Tier Patrons receive a $10 discount. The class size will be capped at 10 students.

Cicero Cesar

Is the Latin Conversational course going to follow a textbook?

Luke Amadeus Ranieri

Hi Cicero! No, the materials are of my own making, mostly PowerPoint slide decks (as pictured above).
