Ascemata Latina 2 dōnō tē aliquā rē

Ascēmata Latīna, Latin Exercises, which I am making for myself to improve my automaticity and fluency.  Feel free to use them as a model for your own practice!  Write your examples based on the formula, and leave them in the comments below.

We all know that the verb dōnāre (to give as a present) takes the dative case of the person to whom you are giving a gift, which is in the accusative case:

Librum amīcō dōnō.

I give my friend a book.

But not many know that you can put the person receiving the gift into the accusative case, and then the gift into the ablative case:

Librō amīcum dō.

I give my friend a book.

(You can also think of it as: I present my friend [direct object] with a book [instrument)].)

These verbs will take either construction:

dōnō dōnāre dōnāvī dōnātus, give

impertiō impertīre impertīvī impertītus, bestow

induō induere induī indūtus, put on (clothes)

exuō exuere exuī exūtus, take off (clothes)

aspergō aspergere aspersī aspersus, sprinkle

īnspergō īnspergere īnspersī īnspersus, sprinkle into

circumdō circumdare circumdedī circumdatus, encircle

Should it not mean in this exercise: Columbīs in hortīs publicīs habitantibus avēnam humī aspergō. = Columbōs in hortīs publicīs habitantibus avēnā humī aspergō. —> Columbos in hortis publicis habitantes avena humi aspergo? All the best and keep up the great work! Beni

That’s right! Thanks for catching that typo. I’ll make the correction. Edit: the text and audio have been updated.
