Χαίρετε, ὦ φίλτατοι! Recently my wonderful mother has taken an interest in learning Ancient Greek, and she asked if there existed anything like Dick and Jane in the language.

Dick and Jane was a series of books made from the 1930s to 1960s for native English speaking children when first learning to read.

Using a children's book is not actually an effective way to learn a foreign language per se, due to the fact that when children learn to read they already have had years of input in their first language, including a sophisticated and fully internalized grammatical system, and they are rather fluent speakers. However a bilingual book, of any difficulty level, can be a really useful tool when seeking the comprehensible input of extensive reading, about which I have spoken recently in this video.

Therefore in the attached zip file you'll find the PDF I made with scans of the book Fun with Dick and Jane, along with the audio files for each of the six chapters.

QUALITY OF THE ANCIENT GREEK — feedback requested

I sought to imitate the original English — which you'll note is very odd, because it is highly simplified for the sake of the novice reader, and not at all how people speak naturally — as much as possible, especially for the sake of my audience.

Nevertheless I would love feedback on the text, whether I made a typo, or used an unnecessarily odd word, or just on the style in general. All manner of feedback is welcome, since I think this a project that can evolve over time for the benefit of lots of people.

I used the Preview application on macOS to add the Greek text, so it may not appear correct on every app. I can affirm that it looks correct on macOS Preview and Adobe Acrobat, as well as iPhone and iPad operating systems.

Thanks in advance for giving it a look! And if you haven't started yet with Ancient Greek, hopefully this gets you interested!  🐕  🐈
