Big panels which didn't fit in this strip are included in this week's tier 2 & 3 scratchboard strip, which posts two hours after this one!

Here's a bit of art inserting itself into life: tonight we were walking around Vancouver, looking for a place to have dinner with my parents. My mom seemed to really dig the menu at this big glossy Latin joint that looked all fancy and hoity. It was called DOSALAS. I didn't think much of it until we got inside, and next to the hostess stand was one of those Instagrammable wall installations with which you pose, and it was two giant wings. I took a picture of it and joked with Lauren about how nicely it dovetailed with my current storyline. Later, when we were departing, I looked back at the sign and realized, DOSALAS = DOS ALAS = TWO WINGS.

That must mean we are done here. It doesn't get much more on the nose than that.

See you next week, and thank you as ever for supporting this scene!

I truly regard you for making the end of this story an emotional moment of the eternal best friendshipness of the boys. After employing some chaotic misdirections to the contrary!

Anthony Thompson

YES! LEO ALWAYS WINS! MOVING BIG CADILLAC FLEET INVENTORY IN HEAVEN!

Achewood

But wait...will the forest Do a Kinky on his terrestrial form?! Will that translate to his heavenly form? We may not know for 19 years!

Sick now we can await the beginning of Story Arcs: The Musical

If watching It's a Wonderful Life taught me anything it's that every time two bros dap, winged angels are the haps

Nicholas Williams

I’m sticking to my opinion that Beef was 100% the cumhead in this situation and that Ray is coming at this with much grace.

s b

show us the slap man. how does one get into that work?

Achewood

That would have been a lovely profile to work in to the noon piece. Slap Man Justin Hannafield, retired Merchant Marine, retired electrician, with the moral flexibility to go into this line of work. Not many men have what it takes to slap a stranger with a Target bag full of tightey-whiteys.

Achewood

Let's not forget what a complete douche Leo has been for all of his life and especially in this visit.

Achewood

Every time a bro daps, an angel gets his flaps

We're Gonna Need Another Tier

Tina got cankles pass it on

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

Am verklempt! Also you knew Laundry Day Antifa would be a prog punk band from maybe 2000.

Douglas Wykstra

The two Beef asides here ("Wait what," "At least I hope he's related to them") got me good. Ray finds a suitable way to exceed the six hundo apology by buying his friend's soul back with a musical whose creation is, to Ray, its own reward. It's all very satisfying in a geometric sort of way.

Achewood

Is there an ankle:calf ratio which creates the standard of identity for cankles? Also, how much cankle-jazzling are we talking here? Is there henna? Perhaps we need another epilogue. Or Ray and Tina backstory flashback.

Achewood

Was there Antifa in 2000? I thought that was invented in 2020.

Achewood

At first I thought it was a letdown for Ray to go from "I got to create an apology I got no road map to" right to a huge version of his regular and only type of apology, which is to give away a lot of money. But I'm glad this works. At least it's in character?

Bruce Wright

OH SHIT we ain't seen the last of Leo

Bruce Wright

"Chyme." I always learn new words here.

Josh Egbert

This conclusion gave me much smiles, thank you.

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

The phrase made me think of Andrew Jackson Jihad or JFKFC. Antifa called such is recent but a band ahead of its time could abbreviate it.

Justin Schardin

Excellent. So inside the artist's mind and whatnot, how does one select "skrit" and "flut"? Like fluttering wings?

Omnithea

Beef must be poor. It's load bearing.

Ian Stewart

That's just the internship level when you're coming up with Death Row

Achewood

I think technically it’s hard to get chyme out of the body but it worked for the line so “shrugguy”

Achewood

Mon plaisir! (I think that’s French)

Achewood

Flut: Kind of the sound of an umbrella popping open. Skrit: tiny unseen dry scraping noise, like of thigh-fronts in shorts against dry hardpack soil.

Achewood

Poverty as load-bearing. A nice concept seldom expressed so well.

s b

antifascists been beating the crap outta nazi punks for deep.

Omnithea

He wins the lotto and suddenly California secedes and becomes Communist.

s b

you also gotta get the right level of slap to chasten but not bruise the Talent. I feel like this is verging on pimp-lore

Bruce Wright

Hard but not impossible (smiles in disturbing way)

Douglas Wykstra

But he was only able to return to his old level of apology by doing something new in another part of his life, using creativity to reach a personal emotional catharsis! So he had a breakthrough, just from an unexpected place, and in a way that immediately allows him to further reinforce his old habits. I think that's the right proportion of character development to dynamic preservation. Either way, it worked in the room, at least for me.

Patreon won't let me paste a picture of a 3-D-cell Maglite here.

well maybe beef can hang a big fucking clock around his neck and be full flava

Ben Wilinofsky

The solution to this one (throw money at the problem until it isn't that, have no shame about his horniness) was pretty squarely in Ray's wheelhouse. Beef had no tools in the toolbox.

Matt Mitchell

Re his regular apology - Yes, but so often we are confronted with a conundrum only to eventually solve it with a version of our usual method . An honest way to approach things, ultimately

You mentioned in a comment reply that you "thought it was a letdown for Ray to go from "I got to create an apology I got no road map to" right to a huge version of his regular and only type of apology, which is to give away a lot of money", but I feel like the real apology is his immediate "Where's the lie!" to Beef's apology, where - in graciously surrendering any claim to the high ground and removing his ego from contention - he completely absolves Beef of any wrongdoing in their quarrel. (I'm not such a Huggins-come-lately as to suggest this absolves Roast Beef of *guilt*, lord knows that boy will always feel it rightly or wrongly, but to my mind this is as close as one can get.)

Achewood

Nicely put. I knew that tiny "Where's the lie" line had to stay in there, but I only felt its function, I didn't articulate well, it as you have. It felt like the kind of way a friend can walk into the room with his pants down and pretend not to notice.

Achewood

is there an even cheaper off-brand version of Sting though?

b.zap

Uncle George I got to I got to GET UP IN YA BAY-BEE

Achewood

Verily, a Two Growths Ray may have beggared belief. I may have an unofficial One Growth Ray policy, which sounds like something invented by the Chinese communist party.

Vincent Verweij

Props on delivering the True Friendship in a real way, Chris

A good little story Yet still we yearn for Todd

Achewood

No one is more surprised than me when this works. Thank you VV, knucklehead since milk money days!

Achewood

I’m hearing people are yearning for a little Todd. Or maybe even double Todd. Let’s see what I can find in the brain pantry.

2scrogz

"...And Old Man Fontanette's wings grew three sizes that day! But he remained terrestrially dead and could not enjoy them. THE END! NO MORAL!"

David Mandeix

Don’t yearn for Todd, man. That’s crass.
