For twenty-eight glorious posts, Lyle ruled Twitter. He still does, if you think about it: he mic-dropped a dozen years ago and hasn't thought about it since. I heard him grousing about his experience there one night not too long ago, when he was out stubbing cigs in the back porch Folger's can: "'I'm at;ired f in duajpoindumpin evyerhting down that endlaless toitlet; twiter s liklea a bsted toitilket thre tank naewvcer fills. tjust runas an runs nd urbrs [runs]."

I think he was saying he was dismayed by the mayfly life of his efforts there, swirling as they did immediately into the ceaseless vortex-maw, accruing to nothing, a waste of art and feeling where people listen only to reflexively disagree, not to understand.

I do not want to be a guy that has a tattoo of a tweet, but I have to admit that has been a temptation since Dec 2, 2013.

Wait, DO nuns all shit at the same time? I'll be pondering this all day

Julie (HiDeeHoGal)

In before anyone else says this is better than how Twitter (never call it X) is now.

Roger

I always like how his last name was also the name of an Arcangel

Daniel Burt

Sad to see him leave the platform, looks like his metrics were finally getting some traction with that last post.

And you let other people tattoo likes onto it with a small stick and poke rig you carry

Achewood

all social media platforms are toxic cesspools. Except this group, remarkably.

Achewood

or was it just early bots pioneered by the Jim Beam corporation? Sadly, we can never know.

WHISKEY: THE ORIGINAL MAGIC feels like a potential addition to the achewood bumper sticker family

Achewood

A second sticker could contain the caveats. But I am adding this idea to the master list.

The only way to win harder at Twitter is to never play at all

Achewood

Cannot disagree. If I didn't have a four-figure group of great people I could reach there, I'd never go. But hopefully all the Achewood strip reposts I do there offset the toxicity some zillionth of a degree.

accruing to nothing, a waste of art and feeling where people listen only to reflexively disagree, not to understand: the story of humanity in the 21st century (but not HERE, CTO; not THIS DAY).

Nicholas Williams

Having never, ever understood (to this moment) what Twitter is or what it is supposed to do, I have never seen this, which makes it NEW ACHEWOOD FROM THE PASSSST and that is some shit right there.

Achewood

What can I say, I'm the Eckhart Tolle of guys who can only afford Southwest. But yeah, this is like the only nontoxic internet community to persist, what is this magic?

Rob Dalton

YOU are this magic, chochacho. and thank bleeding christ on a pita there's any magic remaining anywheres.

Once upon a time, Twitter was a moderated shithole where misinformation abounded, but also where oppressed peoples coordinated revolutions, and independent journalists posted near-real-time on-the-ground events that weren't covered on mainstream news sources. Remember the "Arab Spring?" Then a handful of middle-east dictators threw a bunch of oil money at Elon to buy out the company, overtly bias the moderation policies, leak the identities of dissidents, and crush the revolutionary and real-time news aspects of the platform - leaving behind mostly only the inflammatory misinfo / disinfo accounts to fill the internet with bullshit. This is my tinfoil hat theory for how/why Twitter became the even shittier shithole that it is today. (And to be clear, I was no fan of the prior management or platform, but WHEW did it go to hell fast.)

Shawn Warren

at least a few of those likes were mine
