In this short story involving Pat, a faulty MP3 player, and a policeman, we get to see a bit of how things were going toward the end of Pat and Rod's relationship.

It is important to note that the officer in the story, Keith, is in no way related to Kyth the masseuse with whom Pat was in a doomed rebound relationship.

(I'm experimenting with the best way to format these prose pieces for your ease and comfort of reading. Here is a single-column version in a larger type size. Please let me know in the comments how this and the other .pdf formatting of pieces is working for you.)

I definitely appreciate the single column format when reading on mobile - much more convenient and I don't need to zoom and scroll left and right and such. But that being said, I've always loved the classic multi column zine look, so I've never begrudged having to do a little bit of scrolling around.

I’m reminded of the scene where Thompson was fleeing Vegas and got pulled in Barstow: “The pig had done me on all fronts, and now he was going off to chuckle about it…”

Single column definitely easier to read on mobile, but I'll take any format that even gets close to Rod Huggins

A Cloth Map

I liked the format and the story. I hope Pat found a good parking garage

Thickolas

I imagine Rod will do fine, whereas Pat will lose what little of himself there was besides spiraling rage and quinoa until he becomes a sort of a new-age Ringwraith.

I can't believe I'm feeling sympathy for Pat, he got done so dirty. Every good story needs an asshole, I suppose.

Could anyone point me to the Pat strip with the kid trying to raise money to visit the gubmint?

Thickolas

That weird little guy with his tongue sticking out is one of the great bit characters of the strip

Many thanks for taking the time, I appreciate this so much.

I always thought it was teeth…..

phenomenal. Reminds me of beef trying to steal the playgirl

Noah Chase

After reading this beautiful story of unexpected empathy and a whisper of a hope of transcendence, I asked ChatGPT-4 to read it too with a PDF plugin. Then I asked it: "If, in this story, you had to equate Pat with two of the Beatles and Officer Keith with the other two, what correspondences would you make and why?" It immediately said that Pat would be John and George, while Officer Keith would be Paul and Ringo. This was so obviously correct that I had no further questions.
