Heyyy what’s up you guys Whody van bowinkle here, yes we know who you are. Don’t worry about watching the Whoniverse in any specific order me personally I don’t care much for Torchwood anyways. And now! time for some more *sings* interesting things of note - The snow scenes were shot in a boiling hot week in August, using fake snow. This was done using tiny pieces of paper. The transformation of Halpen into an Ood was re-edited after the original footage was far too graphic for family audiences. Ida Scott was going to be a main character in this episode. She would have been a member of an investigative team looking into conditions of the Ood-Sphere, who would be dismayed to discover that her estranged father is now involved with Ood Operations - although it would later be revealed that he is secretly acting on behalf of the Ood. One scene left on the cutting room floor would have had the Doctor illustrating that people could use robots just as well as Ood, with two technicians pointing out how cheap and effective robots had become. RTD wanted to set the episode on an ice world, because this had not yet been attempted in nu-who. Tim McInnerny (Mr Halpen) had previously been a candidate to play the Eighth Doctor, he did alright for himself though starring in the excellent but criminally underrated Severance movie with Danny Dyer. 7.5 million viewers when it aired in the UK on the 19th of April 2007, two roses from me. By the way your new hair looks great

The episode takes place in the year 4126 on the Ood-Sphere, the titular planet of the episode. The episode was watched by 7.5 million viewers and received highly positive reviews, with critics praising Tate’s performance and the central theme of slavery. The red eye phenomenon in the Ood is a symptom of their being possessed. In "The Impossible Planet" and "The Satan Pit" they were under the Beast's control. In this episode, the red eye was caused by the telepathic link between the Ood and the Ood Brain.

If anything watching them out of order feels in the spirit of doctor who. Very wibbly-wobbly. Certainly won't complain at 3 episodes of doctor who!

Zoot!

The guy driving the claw attacking the Doctor was the most over the top acting ever lol! This is an ok episode for me, but I'm very glad they addressed the Ood situation like you commented on. Again Donna with some great emotional acting scenes in this one.

I remember watching this episode for the first time, it was on my 11th birthday and I had all my friends over watching it, one of those moments that defines a childhood. Good episode in my books, deals with a heavy topic for a family show but doesn't feels forced.

Some people just don't like the look of the Ood, so the can't really get behind the episode entirely. But I've always really liked the episode and the topic it discussed, I thought it was mostly well done. I also like that scene with Donna and the Doctor where he let her hear the song and she asked him to take it away because she couldn't bear it but the Doctor could always hear it. I didn't like the part where he got turned into an Ood though, I felt like it stopped the momentum of the episode and made it seem a little sillier, when I thought it was doing a good job with the subject matter.
