Sadly, mothers (and fathers) sacrificing their children is not uncommon. It seems to be a cultural thing. In China for decades, parents would sacrifice their newborn baby daughters due to the "one child rule" in China (which has since been abolished). Parents were only allowed one child per family for many decades in China. And since it is the custom in China that male children take care of their parents when they get to old to support themselves. When women get married they are required to assist their husbands in supporting his parents, not hers. If they do not have a son to take care of them, they can never retire and when inferm are likely to die of starvation or neglect. They had no retirement or social services to assist them. For this reason the parents would choose to have a male child for their one allowed child If a female child was born, the parent would kill it. It is believed that millions of baby girls were killed for this reason and it has resulted in the population in China being disproportionately male. There are 24 million more males than females in China. So, with this in mind it is not overly surprising that a woman raised since birth as a Confessor would go along with the sacrifice of her child, but when others side with her desire to save her baby and even fight for it, she would then follow her instincts to save the child. Interesting the reaction when the Mother Confessor confesses Zed the reaction is far more dramatic. You see his head glow and his skull shows thru, not just the typical eyes going black. Makes you wonder if a regular confessor could even do it, maybe it takes a Mother Confessor to be able to confess a Wizard of the First Order.
