Technically speaking, in most cases, dwarfism is caused by a genetic or chromazonal defect. The issue that some people have is that they feel it is wrong to alter babies In vitro genetically. They refer to it as Baby designing. I feel there is nothing wrong if you are repairing babies that will be born with genetic defects like damaged internal mechisims, heart, limbs, brain, or senory organs. Also prevent genetic deseases like Down Syndrome or other disabilities. As for dwarfism, it is technically a genetic defect which can cause the a person pain, limit mobility, and in some cases cardiovascular problems. Should parents have the right to prevent this.... its a tough one to guage but I have to say in my opinion...yes. They are repairing damage that will cause the person suffer problems there entire life. Should parents have to right tocause the defect to occur? IMO...no. What if a parent wanted a child to have Down Sydrome, is that ok? What about Cystic Fibrosis and Sickle Cell Anemia, is that ok? The line has to be drawn somewhere. As for being teased, a dwarf child is far more likely to be teased than a normal hieght child regardless of what the parents are. Now if the child is born to naturally short parents and is not the result of a defect. I do not think they should have the right to alter the child to be taller. In this case there is no damage to be repaired. Just my opinion.

I think the issue a lot of people have with “designer babies” comes from religious stuff where they believe it’s gods will or whatever. I also think some people have an issue with it as a general concept because they feel like selecting to remove disabilities etc. is telling disabled people that they don’t deserve to live, which i do understand that reasoning in some way even though i don’t think that’s what the intention is. I think they chose this specific example for the story is because it’s one that’s likely to be seen as more valid and as such more of a grey area by more of the audience compared to if they wanted a designed baby for its eye colour or gender or for selecting away from disabilities or something. Tbh i don’t massively have an issue with any of it in theory. My only concern with it is that if less babies are being born with disabilities as a result of selective fertilisation there’s likely to be less research into those disabilities and less understanding which could negatively impact disabled people, but that’s more of an issue with people than with genetic selection. The woman that “forgot” her boyfriend… I feel like doing that is SO MUCH more cruel than just telling him. He won’t be able to ever move on because he’ll always be thinking that maybe she’ll remember him.
