Hey Shan, hope you’re okay, how’s the weather? The sun has just started to come out over here and people are in a better mood because of it. We had 3 days of 30 degree heat and now our ‘free trial’ is over. Matthew Graham, who wrote this episode, is the co-creator of the series Life on Mars, you’ve seen one episode of this. And honestly it’s kinda brilliant. That same guy Matthew Graham wanted the Gang bangers… sorry, Gangers to be scary, but not monsters who wanted "to take over the world for the sake of it" scary. He wanted them to appear relatable to the audience as they were humans who deserved rights. Originally, the facility would have housed a lot more people both staff and Gangers, but these numbers were cut back both for budgetary reasons and to enhance the atmosphere of claustrophobia and paranoia. So instead of having “so many copies of people running around the place" which made the story too confusing, Matthew Graham and the production crew worked to make it make sense, in essence they helped me to help you, help me to help you. Miranda Cleaves who was played by Raquel Cassidy was cast three days before filming after the original cast actress pulled out. I don’t know who she was. Matthew Graham originally wanted to write a single episode, but Steven Moffat suggested a two-parter, due to his love of cliffhanger banger gangers. Karen Gillan enjoyed the twist in Amy and Rory's relationship. Amy had previously always had Rory "in the palm of her hand" and a different side of the character was shown as she experienced the same emotions Rory felt when she seemed interested in the Doctor. Arthur Darvill also thought it gave Rory a chance to "man up" and be a hero by protecting someone. I loved it I thought Rory finally stepped up and put himself on the line to protect someone that wasn’t Amy. Part one of a two-fer ratings given in the second.
