Hi Shan. Gregg Henry played Dr. L. Gracie ( Richard and Ellis's chief of surgery) where ever I see this actor I only see Mitchum Huntzberger from the Gilmore Girls, even in one episode of Firefly.

The song at the end that you were wondering about is the one from the Dollhouse finale.

I really like this episode and I think the way they did the flashbacks worked really well. I agree that the Callie flashback is the least interesting mainly because we have already seen this time period and her flashback could have just been an episode from a few years ago. I really love the amount of depth we’ve got for Callie these last few episodes though with how she dealt with Mark’s daughter and now with her doing her presentation. She’s probably one of the most multidimensional characters we have now. Insane thinking back to the time when she was pretty much just a love interest for George. I really love the amount of topics they covered in this episode too: A really great portrayal of the Homophobia, Racism and Sexism of the time when Webber was a resident. When Ellis was shouting at him when going into surgery she was taking his “you have Meredith to think about” meaning she shouldn’t risk her life doing the surgery but she took it as him treating her as less of a doctor because she’s a mother. Also very interesting that we get to see the first time he had alcohol being pushed to have it by Ellis. A great tie in to the current situation he’s in. I love seeing the formation of Bailey as the powerful woman she is too. The idea that she started as this weak “minnow” is great to look back on. I could be wrong but I never took Bailey’s resident treating her like that as racism, I just took it as general arrogance and distain for her interns because she didn’t seem to show any sort of disrespect towards Webber. I could be very wrong on that though!

Yes, a good episode. We don’t know the resident that was a bitch to Bailey was thrown out. Bailey was a 1st year here, and the bitch was a 4th year. By the time Meredith and the gang show up, Bailey is a 4th year. So 3 years have gone by between the 2 times. This means the bitch would have finished her residency and become an attending. In most cases when you become an attending Doctor you move on to a different hospital. I like the Webber/Ellis backstory. I remember when AIDS was called GRID. There is a sad movie ( And The Band Played On) about the initial spread of AIDS and how it could have been isolated and eliminated before it had spread beyond a few hundred people. But politics and homophobia got in the way. People did not want to spend million dollars to isolate the “gay disease”. And instead, 100 of millions died with a cost of hundreds of billions of dollars. I think Richard loved his wife more than he loved Ellis. I think the guilt of coming between Ellis and her family ( Meredith) also bothered him too much. I agree Ellis’s tirade about being a mother doesn’t make her less of a surgeon didn’t make sense in reply to what he was saying. Maybe she was just grasping at any argument she could find to fight back. I don’t know. I didn’t like the frightened whispering Callie on stage. I get stage fright, but it seems out of character for Callie to be THAT timid to me. Callie fights, breaks bones and attacks when she is scared. She doesn’t become mousey. I liked Webber doing the Physicians oath at the end of his speech. I’ve never heard it in full before. Kewl.
