Patrick - Excelsior

Decent episode, mostly character building. We see Dexter's first kill using the code of Harry. We find out Dexter was adopted from the foster system. I like how Dexter doesn't do anything to the guy the took Rita's car. It would get people looking at him as possibly dangerous. Easier to just repalce the car. Almost killed the the teenager, but he didn't meet the critiria. That's not to say the boy may not be a serial killer, he was after all about to kill that innocent kid. That's why Dexter made the point to him about the difference between killing someone bad and someone that's innocent could cost the boy his life. The wallet thing was a nice save.

I liked this episode! It was a bit slower, but sometimes that’s needed to build out the characters and give us time to settle into the world. I’m sure we’ll get right back to the main storyline in no time! This isn’t confirmed or anything, just a headcanon/theory I have. I think Dexter really does have feelings and emotions, but he was simply taught that he doesn’t. He might not even know what certain emotions are supposed to feel like, so he doesn’t realize that he’s experiencing them. There are just a lot of little things he’s done that don’t really add up if he truly doesn’t have any feelings or emotions. That’s just my personal interpretation, though. I don’t know if you know this or not, but Dexter is actually based on a book series, specifically the first book. Season 1 is a pretty faithful adaptation of the first book, but Season 2 onward is a completely original story with no ties to any of the future novels. It’s actually really interesting how early the show and books diverged. If you get far enough into the show, I’d love to eventually tell you about all the differences between the books and the show, especially since they separated from each other so early on. I’m not getting my hopes up or anything, but if this does become a regular show on the channel, it would make me so excited to see you continue on this amazing journey. No pressure, though. Only continue if you’re enjoying it! Excited for more episodes! Hope you enjoy!
