Alexandra's purpose for Elektra is simply that she's the Hand's prophesied ultimate weapon. The Hand has always worshiped and sought after the Black Sky, much like how K'un-Lun has always revered the Iron Fist. Elektra is basically the anti-Iron Fist.

The Chaste was explained back in Daredevil S02. They didn't mention Iron Fist or K'un-Lun then because they weren't relevant yet. Or maybe they were making the mythology up as they went along. I dunno. Best that I can hope to explain it is that the Chaste are agents of K'un-Lun made to fight the Hand in the outside world. And apparently they were meant to serve the Iron Fist if he ever joined the fight beyond the boundaries of the mystical city. You know, destiny-type shit or whatever.

The series, for all its ups and downs, one of the things I can give it credit for is how they've established Danny and Luke's friendship. In the comics, they were best friends and actually started their own private hero agency together.

I guess you didn't notice or you forgot, the guns that they were using in the last episode were loaded with tranq darts. They were trying to sedate Danny, not kill him.
