Only thing I can say about Papa dying in S1 ... we never saw a body and what's the rule. If we don't see a clearly dead body then maybe they ain't.

I think I remember in season 2 in the episode where El left Hawkins they found someone who worked with Brenner and claimed that he knew that he was alive, but I don't know how he survived. Maybe it's something that'll be explained later? It could be that he experimented on himself, but I don't know.

Nobody knows why hes alive but theres theories. Maybe they will explain it at some point. Maybe he has some powers of his own that we dont know about? I dont know but it could be possible. He does like to experiment and keep secrets.
