Blade Runner (1982) The Final Cut Watch Along

STILL one of the most visually STUNNING movies ever made. The effects hold up even today. Roy's "Tears in rain" speech at the end one of the BEST ever written much of it improvised by Rutger Hauer. So poetic that a machine in the moment of it's death points out all the things that it will miss most in life. The unsung hero of this film is again the composer. Vangelis, who won an oscar a year earlier for Chariots of Fire, outdoes himself and records a soundtrack for the ages. If you ever need to unwind? Climb into the tub, pour yourself a glass of wine and put on this on. 🍷

Just remember, the replicant Zora that Deckerd shot was part of a band of replicants that killed 23 people. Not exactly little miss innocent. I don't think any moral issues clouded his thinking.

Watch the next one soon. I waited years and years to see it, and I wished I had watched them back to back.

Ames the score and cinematography in the 2nd film are just as amazing! The minute it started I felt like I was was back in the Blade Runner universe. I think 2049 may be better..... Don't come for me lads!! ;)

This is basically an arthouse film trapped in the DVD case of a sci-fi blockbuster. And I absolutely love it. Can't wait to discuss. Edit: Will be interesting to hear what you think of the theatrical vs. final cut. I think the 1992 Director's cut (actually only director-approved) might be the best, but I haven't seen it in a LONG time (and it's not available for streaming). (SPOILERS BELOW)

You missed a couple things as you talked over a few dialogue scenes but Sebastian was unfortunately killed. They reported it on the news scanner

This was a first time watch for me, Ames! It's a movie that's been on my radar forever, but I never got around to watching it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved your reaction!! The cinematography, sets, effects and soundtrack were amazing!! I am stunned it was released over 40 years ago! (SPOILERS BELOW)

If you haven't yet seen this one yet, maybe stop reading here, because I'm going to discuss a possible plot twist. One of my favorite ways to experience this movie after several viewings is to go in with a different answer to questions left in mystery. There are groups of fans out there that will go 16 rounds with you over the fact that they KNOW that Deckard is a replicant, because Ridley Scott is their best friend's cousin's boyfriend's, great uncle, and he told them so. The director has said in interviews that he wanted to insinuate that his blade runner was a replicant, and he tried to lead the audience to that conclusion, without stating it outright; however, Ridley Scott did not write this story. Philip K. Dick is very clear in his book that Deckard is not a replicant. Because Deckard can really be either in the film, it's fun to switch sides from time to time and play devil's advocate to see if you can change your own mind.

I definitely advise watching it again. Maybe the theatrical cut? Denis Villanueve directed the sequal, he's my favorite director working today. ALL his movies ae visual feasts and I highly reccomend BR 2049(which I love), Arrival, Sicario(10 stars) and Prisoners. Recently found your channel and loving your reactions. You're perceptive, intelligent and very funny, keep 'em coming!

Right after killing Tyrell, when Roy is in the elevator, he suddenly gets a confused look on his face. This is because he realizes Tyrell's blood, which is covering his hands, is not human blood, indicating Tyrell is a replicant.

Hey Ames, loved your reaction. This is also one of my all-time favorite movies that has stuck in my head for literally decades. I was lucky enough to have seen it opening weekend and really liked it then (obviously, what we now know as the "theatrical" version). If you ever get around to watching the theatrical version, I hope you will consider doing it on Patreon. I'd love to watch along with that version again as well. (I haven't seen it in ages.) Now, regarding Blade Runner 2049, I would like to draw your attention to a several short-subject videos on Youtube which preceded the release of the movie and were meant to bridge the time gap. The 3 shorts are 2022 Black Out, 2036 Nexus Dawn, and 2048 Nowhere to Run. There are various compilations of them on YT which should also have a short intro by Denis Villeneuve himself. Finally, I should also mention that enlisted different directors for each short. For convenience, here is one such compilation of all 3 videos that runs 27:42 (inc. the intro and final trailer): https://youtu.be/ORPGFAClYHc?si=-pH6usfwj20qVeph
