Aaaaaaahhh......So great to go back and watch early Tom Hanks movies (Bachelor Party will always have a special place in my heart). So many incredible subtleties in his performance here that are so good they almost go unnoticed. This movie proved to many, Tom's incredible talent was no accident after the success of SPLASH and helped elevate him in the eyes of many as a seriously good actor much the same way Robin Williams broke through with GOOD MORNING VIETNAM in 87. You gotta remember back in the early 80's those 2 were known primarily for their success on sitcoms and I don't think anybody would have guessed they'd become two of the most talented actors in Hollywood a decade later. Tom rode the massive success of this into PHILADELPHIA and his first Oscar which convinced everyone by then he was unique..

What a fun watch that was. When I was a young kid I watched most Tom Hanks movies and I was a fan. He always had this goofiness about him and somehow just resonated with me. Big of course more so than others, who didn't want to be big as a kid. When Philadelphia came around I was shocked. Whoa, you're gonna do serious roles now and be really good at them too? The answer was a resounding yes. I've enjoyed many of his movies since. He really is a terrific actor. But I do still hold a special (nostalgic) place in my heart for his early work. And yes, that is one of those iconic scenes in movie history.

Thanks to this movie, I can no longer hear The Way We Were and not sing it like Tom Hanks. “Scattered PIC-tures”. Just like I can’t hear The Greatest Love of All and not hear Eddie Murphy. IYKYK 🤣😂🤪

What a BLAST to see this one again with you Ames!! The casting for Young Josh was PERFECT!! I've always wanted to try the Big Piano!! It must be so much fun!! Great for duets! Tom Hanks!! What can you say about him??? He can literally do it ALL!! BIG brings out the kid in all of us!! Definitely MAGICAL!! ✨✨✨

Tic Toc Melody

This was such a fun and emotional reaction! "Quarter for your fortunes? I looooove quarters!" Great accent! Had a bit of a time with this one; got some kind of 2 hour ten minute extended version and I couldn't figure out at first why I was constantly going out of sync! 🤣 I actually just happened to do a Penny Marshall/Tom Hanks double feature with (an edited down) "A League Of Her Own" reaction and then this one for "Big", and it's made me feel very warm towards Penny Marshall! Making connections to other movies you just watched: Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams from "American Graffiti" starred in the hit TV series "Laverne & Shirley" in the 70s; this was Penny's second film as a director and is the first film directed by a woman to gross more than $100 million! Anyways, I can't remember if you've seen that "A League Of Her Own" - which came out the same time as "Batman Returns" and displaced it from the top slot - but if you haven't, that's definitely one for your list! (And also, as previously mentioned, if you liked this, you might like "Splash".) Your reaction to the piano scene was priceless, I got unexpectedly choked up right along with you! I don't know if people still play piano, but back in the day lots of households had pianos and those were the two pieces everybody could play: "Heart And Soul" and "Chopsticks". They are most definitely actually doing that for real!

What a blast!! I watched this movie/reaction with my 3 y/o daughter (she’s a fan as well :) and there is something so magical about that piano scene. She was just captivated. It would be amazing to have seen Tom hanks and Robert loggias rehearsals for that scene. Towards the end, when you started tearing up, she said to me “oh no, what happened to Ames?” Great reaction as always. We loved it!
