FOREIGN BABY!! C'mon... SOOOOOO many GREAT foreign titles like Cinema Paradiso out there still.. Rarely do we see ANYONE reacting to Foreign titles online so Ames could lead the charge. You know your loyal followers here are going to give you a great list in which to choose from. I'm anxious to see what they come up with. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

FOREIGN por favor! But *looks at results* drama is good too

Foreign. A couple of recent suggestions, "The Worst Person in the World"(2021) and "Decision to Leave"(2022).

Transformers: The Movie, a 1986 animated classic (my favorite animated movie!), with amazing vibrant 2D animation that still looks great today, AND a killer 80's synth-rock soundtrack throughout the whole movie! Also, featuring the voice talents of Leonard Nemoy and Orson Wells!

Michael T

Foreign! So many great choices: The 400 Blows, Salaam Bombay, The Wages of Fear, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, etc.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

If Foreign were to win, may I suggest "Run, Lola, Run". They recently released a 25th anniversary edition of the film.

Going with Drama. Seems a little underrepresented on here. Though I'm also pushing a personal agenda of trying to nominate "Amadeus". It's my pick on the WOW spin list, but respectfully, it's starting to feel like just going that route and it's never going to get seen as that doesn't even seem to be a weekly thing anymore. But obviously there are plenty of great Drama's and I'd be happy with whatever's ultimately chosen, just feel like it's time for a straight up Drama that's not also attached to some other sub-genre we've been hitting heavy lately like Thriller or Noir.

Remember seeing that opening night at the Music Box in Chicago! Great eclectic young crowd of film buffs...

I have a movie that covers every one of these categories, and more. Pink Floyd The Wall 🤪….I’m only half kidding here. My Pink Floyd tattoo can attest to that. But the movie DOES cover all those categories.

I voted drama. Drama has always been my favorite category/genre. My second on the list above is War. A decent amount of parity in the poll results so far. As for animation, I did a rewatch yesterday of The Iron Giant (1999) and a first watch last week of Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993). I can appreciate animation and enjoy the animation itself, but not big on animation movies generally. I have nostalgia for Heavy Metal (1981), though recently did a rewatch and realize one has to be prepared. I have never really watched animaton since watching cartoons on Saturday morning as a kid. In the early 1990s at about age 30, I watched a few episodes of The Ren & Stimpy Show, King of the Hill, and Beavis and Butt-Head -- enjoyed those three, though Beavis and Butt-Head was a little much at times. Ren & Stimpy was awesome. King of the Hill is set in a hypothetical town in east Texas where I am generally from.

I understand. It’s just the song there with no video clip edits. You can always just preview the first 15 seconds for a quick idea and save the rest for the film later. Just don’t watch Mark Walhbergs (love him as an actor but . . ) butchering of that song in that scene from Boogie Nights 🤣.

Horror. There are some horror movies I can think of that could work for the summer: -The Mummy (1932) -King Kong (1933) -The Mummy's Hand (1940) -The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms (1953) -Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) -It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955) (The colorised version, if possible, since that's how creator Ray Harryhausen originally intended it to be seen.) -Mysterious Island (1961) -The Valley of Gwangi (1969) -The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) -Jaws 2 (1978) -Phantasm (1979) -Fright Night (1985) -The Lost Boys (1987) -Near Dark (1987) -Prince of Darkness (1987) -Tremors (1990) -In the Mouth of Madness (1994) -Color Out of Space (2019) -Slaxx (2020) -Psycho Goreman (2020) -Willy's Wonderland (2021)

Since drama is in the lead, these super-duper classic dramas of the 70s-80s immediately spring to mind because no one did drama like the 70s!!! (all AFI, total coincidence) - One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest - Dog Day Afternoon - All The President's Men - Raging Bull - Sophie's Choice

There's only one animated film I can think of I'd want to see a reaction for: "Yellow Submarine"!!!!!!! 🤩😍🤩😍 If you thought "2001" was psychedelic.....!

Retro Maven

Don't you like comedy? I think you'd do well in that genre....

As a horror aficionado I have chosen foreign. Dudes, its summer. We should be traveling to exotic locals; speaking English loud and slow as if that will somehow make us easier to understand. I'm assuming foreign rules out English speaking countries. If I'm not reading subtitles it doesn't seem foreign to me. Old Boy Ran Fanny and Alexander Beauty and the Beast (1946) 8 1/2

Gary Trousdale

Cartoons bringing up the rear. Goddammit, people need to watch more cartoons!!

Paul Cox

If drama wins, war comes in second, and foreign comes in third, you could just watch Come and See (1985) and satisfy all three requirements. But remember to clear your calendar for a week to mentally recover.

WAR *Platoon (1986) (AFI Top 100) [Oliver Stone] --Charlie Sheen (awesome narration), Willem Dafoe, Tom Berenger, Forest Whitaker *Glory (1986) --Denzel Washington (won his first Oscar), Matthew Broderick (unrecognizable compared to Ferris Bueler), Morgan Freeman *The Thin Red Line (1998) [Terrence Malick] (“a daringly philosophical World War II film”) --Jim Caviezel, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, George Clooney, Woody Harrelson *Lincoln (2012) [Spielberg] --Daniel Day-Lewis (won Best Actor Oscar). Oscar nominations = Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field -- The movie nominated for 12 Oscars, the most of that year. *Darkest Hour (2017) --Gary Oldman (won Best Actor Oscar), Lily James, Kristin Scott-Thomas

Drama noms & poll next week or you picking?

Kim

I chose foreign because it’s a category that’s often overlooked. Possibly audiences in the U.S. are not sophisticated enough to appreciate foreign films.
