Definitely rewatch Dick. Not only are Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams great, but all the Kids in the Hall members and Will Ferrell and Teri Garr and Dan Hedaya and and and...

Wow!!! Three incredible choices Ames well done. A BIG week. TKAMB is Harrison Fords fave and like many of his contemporaries he calls Pecks performance “Flawless”. All 3 of these movies are on my ‘perfect’ film list as there’s not really one false note in any of them.

Holy smokes!!!! I'm on a train right now, I'm blown away!!!!! I've got my copy of To Kill A Mockingbird with me so I'm going to try and watch this, either now or a bit later. And I am completely blown away by All The President's Men!!!!!!! Although you don't need to know about Watergate - the two reactors I saw do it knew zero about it - whatever you do know, however little, will definitely help so if you've already seen Dick, you're already way, way ahead of the game. Ironically enough, I just saw a new video posted today about the 50th anniversary of Watergate, with interviews of the two main characters in ATPM. Damn, I wish I brought my copy of ATPM with me, just in case!!!! Ames.....you is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a frickin' week!!!

Can't wait to watch All the President's Men. One of my personal top 10 of all time!

I will definitely watch your reactions to those three good movies. TKAMB = classic. I took my kid to see Scott Pilgrim in theater at his request - I was caught off guard at how much I liked Scott Pilgrim = creative, fun, different. APM is No. 10 on my list of favorite movies of all time. I've watched APM so many times that I can recite the lines as they are being said. I like Dick (1999) -- could be good for you to rewatch. A very good movie is "Frost/Nixon" (2008). Keep in mind (no spoiler) that Ben Bradlee was editor of The Washington Post. He became a public figure before Watergate blew up when the WaPo joined The NYT in publishing the leaked Pentagon Papers. He was born in Boston and went to Harvard. He served in the navy in WWII in the Pacific. As a reporter in the 1950s, Bradlee became close friends with then-senator John F. Kennedy, who had graduated from Harvard two years before Bradlee, and lived nearby.

A way to prepare for APM (to make APM more meaningful) is to understand who were key players in the Nixon White House (no spoilers): *H. R. Haldeman (Chief of Staff) and *John Ehrlichman (advisor) -- these two ran The White House, especially domestic affairs. The two most powerful people (after Nixon) in The White House. Nixon's right hand men. Nixon's interaction with other staff members was conducted through Haldeman, as is typical for a President's Chief of Staff. *John Mitchell (and then others) = Attorney General. Mitchell was close w/Nixon. He had been Nixon's campaign manager before becoming Attorney General. A good miniseries is the Starz "Gaslit" (2022) about Mitchell's wife (Martha Mitchell portrayed by Julia Roberts). Sean Penn transforms himself into John Mitchell (almost unrecognizable as Sean Penn). *John Dean -- White House Counsel. He was young. He is currently 85 years old. *Charles Colson (Chief Counsel for the President) (attorney/political advisor) also known as Special Counsel to Nixon. *James McCord -- head of security for Nixon's fundraising organization/re-election compaign, the "Committee for the Re-Election of the President" (or the "Committee to Re-elect the President") better known as CREEP. *G. Gordon Liddy -- several positions in Nixon Administration before being moved to CREEP (Nixon's 1972 re-election campaign). *Hugh Sloan -- CREEP treasurer.
