Excited to watch this later tonight. I just got this box set imported from the UK last month with 3 cuts of this film. And now I get to use it for real!

There is a version to rent on Amazon but looks about 10 mins longer. I'll try that if we can't find another solution.

This movie is simply the best commentary on consumerism that has ever been made. The fact that it’s a horror is just a bonus. The remake is pretty good, but nothing beats the original. FLYBOY 4-EVA!!

I'd love to see you react to more horror so this is really awesome. One of the best horror movies, one of the best zombie movies, and directed by one of the best horror directors, George A. Romero. It's just a great zombie movie with great commentary about how things were back then and kinda still are now. Great reaction.

If you haven't seen them, I've gotta recommend Romero's Night of the Living Dead and Day of the Dead. They both bookend this movie to make one of the best series of zombie movies and one of the best movie trilogies. I've also gotta recommend the 1982 horror comedy anthology comic book movie Creepshow. It's also directed by Romero, as well as written by him and Stephen King. It's a love letter to the 50's horror comics by EC Comics, and it's one of the most comic booky movies ever made. It's great stuff.

James Rogers

Where to start. I first saw Dawn on a Monday in late 1979 at the Cinema V in downtown Milwaukie, Oregon, on a double bill with Phantasm; admission 69 cents. Ended up going every day that week. Yeah, I kind of like this movie. The smurfish pallor of the zombies was unintentional. Tom Savini used gray but it ended up looking blue on film. The continuity error with the missing blood on Roger's face is jarring but I give George a pass out of respect for basically creating the zombie as we know it today. No question this is my favorite WoW pick for August. 👍

I finally was able to make some time for the watchalong, was great, thanks Ames. I hope Day of the Dead is your next stop. The one thing I’ll mention is that the master of splatter horror makeup, Tom Savini, not only did the makeup and effects on this and Day of the Dead (and so many more)….but he is also one of the main motorcycle gang members (black curly hair, long mustache. He acts in quite a few of his films. Tom is still alive and working and we gorror movie aficionados owe him a huge debt of gratitude. His first famous work was in Friday the 13th, but I think his best work was in Creepshow (hello fluffy). Greg Nicotero, the make up and effects coordinator for The Walking Dead, learned his craft from Savini.

I still have this on VHS in storage somewhere. What a classic, and the prosthetic makeup & FX, brilliant!

This is one of my favorite Zombie films. George Romero was a great director and created some of the best films. I agree you should watch the original Night of the Living Dead and the remake. Bit of trivia: In the originally scripted ending, Peter was supposed to shoot himself in the head while Fran commits suicide by sticking her head up into the blades of the helicopter. Romero, however, had fallen in love with the characters over the course of the movie, and felt that after the horrors they had endured, this conclusion would be too depressing. They filmed this ending but never did effects shots.
