Just Paul!

Ok... so... I've found my cinematic blind spot finally! I have not seen a single movie on this list! And I've been a movie watcher my whole life. I guess I never got into film/noir... I think the closet I've seen was Naked Lunch...

Guston Zimasheen

We had it all, Just like Bogie and Bacall. Starring in our own late, late show, Sailing away to Key Largo.

Paul Cox

Believe me when I say I don't find joy in playing a genre cop, but Hitchcock never made a noir film. I guess Strangers on a Train was distally similar, but y'all don't cheat yourselves out of some actual film noir by gravitating toward a familiar name please. :)

John M.

The Third Man is the best film on this list (though I love Blood Simple), but doubt it has enough eyeballs to win.

China Andronicus

Strangers on a Train is one of Hitchcock’s best, and the Third Man was written by Graham Greene, one of THE great novelists of all time. I have several tattoos based on his works. Brighton Rock is chilling and has an amazing film from the 40s starring a very young Richard Attenborough (John Hammond himself) and William Hartnell, the original Doctor. Greene has a ridiculous amount of film credits to his name. Another I would highly recommend is the Quiet American. It stars Michael Caine and Brendan Fraser and takes place in Vietnam just before the war breaks out. Amazing film and a spectacular serious role from Fraser. And now I’m done rambling. 😅

Crap I meant to turn comments off… be nice ppl lol

Everyone’s opinions on what is and isn’t film noir are like snowflakes. No one’s are the same. It’s hard to corral these differences into one poll, but you did great. If it didn’t draw the usual “that movie is good but not film noir” comments you probably didn’t do it right lol Excellent job.

ROAD TO PERDITION on my list of PERFECT films... Can't go wrong with this one..

Analytical Guy

If you do Blood Simple, you will be the second reactor I've ever seen do it. If you do Body Heat, you will be the first! :-) But in all fairness, if you do any of these movies, you will probably be doing a movie very few reactors have done.

Raieldon

Oh, shit. Was trying to think of movies that are both sci-fi and noir, and I blanked on Strange Days. Damn it.

James Rogers

I take my noir like my men ... black and white.

Arbie

Great performance by Robert Mitchum in “Night of the Hunter”. Terrifying.

I've only seen 3 movies in the poll. All 3 are neo-noir. I've seen none of the noir in the poll. I voted 5 neo-noir and 4 noir. NEO-NOIR I voted the 3 neo-noir I've seen: --Body Heat (1981) [my top choice] --Klute (1971) [love Jane Fonda in that] --Road to Perdition (2002) [vaguely remember didn't strike me but unsure]. Based on reviews, two additional neo-noir I voted = Blood Simple (1984) and Devil in a Blue Dress (1995). NOIR I voted Key Largo (1948) [on my watchlist]. Based on reviews I read today and advice from friends, I voted Double Indemnity (1944), Strangers on a Train (1951), and The Third Man (1949)

Clay F

Body Heat (1981) --AFI top 100 passions --AFI top 100 thrills --AFI top 100 quotations --Kathleen Turner Golden Globe nomination for New Star of the Year --Kathleen Turner BAFTA nomination for Most Outstanding Newcomer --William Hurt (R.I.P.) being in the movie is an added bonus.

You should do a great detectives poll, Ames. Three of the best come to mind Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. The latter two are Agatha Christie hero and heroine, respectively. SH is Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, of course. Just a humble recommendation from the world's most humble guy.

Lord oh Lord Tom Shanks will always beat out everything smh

Big heat deserves a viewing!
