The actor who plays the Daily Planet boss (Perry White) is Jackie Cooper. He started in the silent films as a kid and is the youngest ever nominee for Best Actor (9 yrs old). He was also part of the Our Gang/Little Rascals ensemble.

When I was little (late 60's), they were still playing episodes of Superman the tv show with George Reeves (1950's). It may be fun for you to watch an episode, not necessarily as a reaction (or maybe?), just for comparison to Christopher Reeve's interpretation. In either case, the idea of Superman itself brought hope that a hero was either out there looking out for you, or that you could become that wholesome hero. Today's heroes are much more aligned to our modern reality. The powers of the gods, yet all the drama of a dysfunctional family. I prefer the idyllic aspirations of the wholesome hero.

My favorite Superman...I was 10 when this came out. I got to see Jaws, Rocky, Close Encounters, Star Wars and Superman in the theaters as a kid. Can't get much better. Superman II was quite good too....III & IV not so much.

Hey Ames, gotcha another fun fact: Without Brando this movie would likely have never seen the light of day. Christopher Reeve was a relative unknown as was Margot Kidder. The studio insisted that someone BIG had to be Jor-El for anyone to believe the story. I don't remember how it happened, but they were able to get Marlin Brando to play him and the rest as they say is history. A belated happy birthday to ya young lady. Have a wonderful day.

Wow! Ames! So in effect, you did FOUR Gene Hackman movies this week! I actually saw a Superman reaction today.....and after watching "Conversation", "Hoosiers" and "Night Moves" here on the channel, I really appreciated his Lex Luthor performance even more! It's interesting seeing him go from charming characters like Lex Luthor or. Royal Tenembaum to more inward, brooding characters like the ones we just watched. I also just saw him kill it in some 90s comedies ("Get Shorty", "The Birdcage"). Very cool.
