One of the greatest baseball movies. Hilarious and entertaining with a few well-placed emotional scenes. Davis, Petty and Hanks were awesome....but my low-key favorite lines came from Jon Lovitz "Aww, dry your eyes." and Garry Marshall. "If your knees are up to it, go ahead." 🤣 Great to hear Penny Marshall's old castmate David Landers (aka "Squiggy") as the announcer. "Marla HOOCH. HOOCH."

Ames...too cute with the ball cap and signals. 😀❤️

The character Walter Harvey "candy bar magnate" is a fictional representation of actual Chicago Cubs owner Phillip K. Wrigley, who took over his father William's business. (Wrigley Gum- spearmint, Double Mint, Juicy Fruit, Big Red, Hubba Bubba, Orbit, Extra, Freedent, 5, etc)

I don't watch much live tv anymore, so channel flipping is a thing of the past, but there was a good twenty years where I'd stop and watch this to the end no matter what point I joined in. I've probably got the whole movie memorized.

Great intro!

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. As a history and baseball fan, I love how the movie is done. It is not 100% accurate, but for me it is enough that I am very entertained and i can get a feel of what that time period is like.

It was originally founded as the All American Girls Softball League, and used underhanded pitching and 12" ball for the first 5 years. The league ran from 1943-1954. The first season only had the 4 teams depicted in the film, but it grew to include 15 teams over the years with the 1948 season maxing out at 10 teams. All the teams were from the Midwest- Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and one team from Minneapolis.
