The most amazing thing 12 year old me had ever seen. The T-1000 effects were such an incredible leap forward. Unreal theater experience. LFG

Few direct action better than James Cameron. You know your always in for a treat. This movie never gets old no matter how many times you seen it...

I saw this after it was released on home video and loved it. Been a fan of the Terminator franchise since T1 and have enjoyed this, T3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Genesys. Terminator: Dark Fate is by far my least favorite. Terminator: Salvation is said to be underrated and I have yet to see it.

In T1, Sarah presses a button to kill a Terminator, and we all cheer. In T2, Sarah presses a button to kill a Terminator, and we all weep.

I will address the (liquid nitrogen vs liquid metal) VS (molten steel vs liquid metal) issue: liquid nitrogen has to be kept below -320 F. When the t-1000 is frozen by the nitrogen, it actually interferes with the liquid metal's ability to operate as a singular organism. The ambient heat in the midst of the steel foundry causes the parts of the t-1000 to melt and then they reassemble. However, the body is now glitching, which is why you see the extremities begin to mimic what they touch without input from the 'brain' of the t-1000. When the 40 mm grenade explodes and causes the body of the t-1000 to fragment and distort, it loses its balance and falls into a large container of molten steel (temperature: 2500 F). This actually melts and destroys the liquid metal that comprises the body of the terminator at a molecular level. For the record, the hollywood misuse of the 40 mike mike in this film as long been a source of annoyance to me. A grenade like that has a 15 meter arming range (to ensure it doesn't cause damage to the operator when it goes off). In reality, several of the times you see it used on screen, the 40 mm round would have acted simply like a large, solid, slow moving bullet instead of exploding. If you haven't watched the James Cameron film The Abyss, I HIGHLY recommend it. One of Cameron's best movies, it has a great story, great characters and fantastic acting, especially from Ed Harris. a point of clarification on the ''mini" part of the mini gun the weapon shown in the movie is technically real but took some hollywood movie magic to bring it to life onscreen. the m134 is chambered in 7.62 nato, which is a rifle round and it is a scaled DOWN version of the 20 mm gatling gun used in several different military aircraft. 7.62 round is 2.8 inches in length, whereas the 20 mm round is in the neighborhood of 9 inches long. also worth noting that a minigun requires electricity to spin the barrels so they had to hide a LARGE battery in clever ways during the filming of the scene. one final thing: the hollywood-ized m134 IN T2 is actually the same weapon used in the first predator movie. I strongly recommend that you watch the first two predators and ignore the rest because the quality of the subsequent films goes WAY down....I also feel that way about the alien franchise AND the terminator franchise both.....watch the first two of each and you have watched the ONLY good ones of each.

I saw this in the theater with my buddy Mike. We were 14. We walked to the theater four days in a row. We couldn’t watch this movie enough. It was Such a highly anticipated sequel, and it expanded on the original in so many ways it’s just perfect. Great reaction, Ames!

One of those movies that looks and feels brand new whenever you watch it. If this came out today, it would be a huge hit, and people would say “Why don’t they make movies like this anymore?”. James Cameron is the reason. There’s nothing in the movie that ‘dates’ it…..not the clothes, vehicles, hair, vernacular, tech. Whether it was on purpose or not, it simply concentrated on the premise that people will destroy themselves. Smart as hell.

I, too saw it in the theater, and 70mm, 6-channel Dolby sound is life changing. Here, I was watching along, but had the director's cut, so I had to keep adjusting to keep it in sync. The director's cut has a number of additional scenes. We see more of Dyson and his famiiy, and there is a dream sequence of Sarah and Kyle together, etc. The most notable difference is that Cameron filmed it with a sequel-proof happy ending where we Sarah, her grown son, and granddaughter are happily playing on the playground, since the war never happened. Unfortunately, sequels mean money. And you can't have sequels with a happy ending. So they substituted the going down the highway with voice over that you saw in the theatrical cut. I prefer the director's cut. Always respect the director's vision (unless they think JarJar Binks would be a good idea). The same with "Aliens", go with the director's cut. Sequels are almost always diminishing returns. My opinion: "Aliens", stop at 2. "Terminator", stop at 2. "Fright Night", both are good. "Die Hard", skip 2, just watch 1 and 3. "Halloween", just watch 1, it's a work of art. "Friday the 13th" and "Nightmare on Elm Street". . .aw, c'mon, you know what they are. Knock yourself out! PS- I can never get over those helicopter stunts! That wasn't CGI, it wasn't model work, it was a crazy sonofabitch flying under an overpass! In the theater I said "That guy must be ex-Viet Nam, no one else would try something like that." And so he was. He was actually the pilot who jumps out of the chopper when told to. If I recall, no one would insure a stunt like that, but he said he could do it. Balls of iron on that one.

Which version is this....?

Definately the sequal of sequels, in terms of satisfaction and doing justice to the original while bringing something new i don't think there is a better example. Top gun mav might be a close second but in those regards I think I'd put this one on top. As a caveat, I don't consider say empire strikes back as an example of a sequal, those I think are appropriately labeled as episodes. I think this one also came out exactly when it was supposed to. To have been made later even half a decade later close to matrix or early 2000s as cgi took over things start looking dated where vfx practical effects hold up over the decades. Best example is the special edition star wars compared to watching the old original. You can tell exactly every frame of cgi inserted "enhancements" and I hate them. Every scene with an explosion would have had a car blowing up towards the screen, that same visual effect every movie uses now.
