Top Tier Bond. And a GREAT video game!

VivendoBem

Another gorgeous Bond Girl. That Rosa Klebb, what a minx!

Eunice Gayson was the first Bond Girl and played Sylvia Trench in both Dr No and From Russia With Love. She’s also one of the first Hammer Horror girls, starring in Revenge of Frankenstein a few years before the bond films. The Director of this film, Terence Young, also directed Dr No as well as Thunderball, another one of the better Bond films. You have Goldfinger next, one of my favorites….then Thunderball. Such great films.

Oh man, I'm still recovering from "Network" as if it was an all-night party! :D. Bond is actually great Saturday morning fare!

Everyone has their favorite Bond and usually it’s Sean Connery . You can see why. For me however? I’d have to say Daniel Craig best exemplified Bond. Despite that, the first PG rated film I ever saw was LIVE AND LET DIE and is still my favorite…

By far my favorite of the Connery series of 007. As a side note though, Robert Shaw, I really can't think of a lot of actors that have his range, he's spectacular at the hardened leader, series of wwii roles from RAF commander, SS Tank Commander, on to Boat captain, Bond Villain, but also lighter hearted roles with a bit more humor like Pelham 123 or force 10 from Navarre which I wholly think Ames would love.

First of all, I’m a fount of useless knowledge so I apologize in advance. 1. He was looking for listening devices behind the paintings in the hotel room. 2. Daniela Bianchi (Tatiana) is still alive. I love saying that about actors in old movies. 3. The magnificent Martine Beswick is one of the Gypsy women who fought each other. She is also in a more prominent speaking role in Thunderball. She’s big in my world because she’s a Hammer Horror legend, having starred in Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde, Prehistoric Women, and the huge Hammer hit One Million Years B.C. She is also, I’m happy to say, still alive and very active on the convention circuit. Bond films and Hammer films have a LOT of crossover actresses. 4. Robert Shaw is the actor who plays the blonde assassin trying to kill bond. He was most famously Quint in Jaws 5. Walter Gotell is the villain Morzeny, and you will get to know him well since he plays the head of the KGB as another Bond Character General Gogol in FIVE bond films!! 6. The PlayStation/xBox video game is great, IMHO, and famously has Sean Connery actually voicing Bond. It’s a lot of fun for a Bond fan…..although, it’s no Goldeneye 007 N64, which is legendary.

Great fun! Thank, Ames! Lotte Lenya's (Krebb) career harks back to 1920s Germany and the "epic theater" of Kurt Weill and Berthold Brecht. She was Weill's wife for a time, moving out of Germany during the Nazi years due to official backlash against their style of drama. Robert Shaw (Grant) was always a standout in every film he made. Best known as Quint, the crusty old shark hunter in Jaws, he was also fabulous as Lonnegan, the mob boss who was the victim of the con game in The Sting. But one of my favorites is his lusty and flamboyant outing as King Henry VIII in A Man for All Seasons (1966), a film well worth seeing IMO, due primarily to Paul Scofield's masterful portrayal of Tudor statesman Sir Thomas More. Shaw died far too soon in 1978. (RIP.)

That was a great reaction. I'm impressed on how well (and accurately) you sized this movie up, despite only having seen Dr No, and some of the more recent ones. Definitely a little different from the rest of the franchise.

Connery is my favorite Bond of all time. Love From Russia with Love. Goldfinger as well. But Thunderball is my personal favorite. Behind "Knightfall" it's the 2nd largest grossing Bond in ticket sales (adjusted for inflation) plus Domino is .... gorgeous.

Total banger! My dad and uncle saw this in the theater when it came out. When I was 13, HBO did a Bond marathon and he made me watch it with him. I've been a fan ever since. The only Bond movie that comes close to this one is Casino Royale (2006).

Just love this film. Fantastic spy plot that's so well written by Richard Maibaum and Johanna Harwood. Of course based on the book by Ian Fleming. John F. Kennedy listed Ian Fleming's book as among his top ten favorite novels of all time. Superb score by John Barry and the great theme song sung by the legend Matt Monro. Great sets and filming locations. Some great shots in this too. Edited by Peter Hunt who edited the first five. He later directed On Her Majesty's Secret Service with George Lazemby. Terence Young really got the series going with the first two and then Thunderball. Many people think of Arnie when they think of one-liners, but Bond was there first. Many great one-liners to go especially with Roger Moore. You're going to enjoy great scores, spectacular stunts and fantastic sets in the future Ames. The scene in which James Bond and Tatiana Romanova first meet in the hotel suite has since been used as an audition scene for potential Bond actors and Bond girls. The helicopter carrying director Terence Young during filming crashed over water, trapping him below the surface for a considerable time in an air bubble inside the copter's canopy. He was rescued, and then immediately went back behind the camera with his arm in a sling. Producer Harry Saltzman considered replacing him with Sir David Lean, but producer Albert R. Broccoli insisted that Young finish the movie. Whenever I watch this film I always feel a bit sad because of Pedro Armendáriz. He was terminally ill when filming this movie and they prioritized his scenes so he could finish as quickly as possible. Armendáriz got exposed to nuclear waste when filming The Conqueror in the Utah desert near a U.S. nuclear test site as did the other stars of the movie like John Wayne and Susan Hayward. He wanted to do this film so his family could get one more paycheck. You can see him limping in some scenes. Ali Kerim Bay is definitely one of my favorite Bond sidekicks and absolutely my favorite proponent of big families. How many sons does the guy have? Bay is just such a fantastic character with great lines and great rapport with Bond. You're going to get to see his son Pedro Armendáriz Jr. when you get to Licence to Kill. Daniela Bianchi ddin't do many films, but I think she does a fine job for her first film at age 21. She was dubbed by Barbara Jefford due to her really thick accent. Bianchi was Miss Universo Italia 1960 and first runner-up at the 1960 Miss Universe pageant, In the gunbarrel sequence it's still stuntman Bob Simmons. Connery will do it for the first time in Thunderball. The train fight is one of the best in the series and it was done by Connery and Shaw themselves. Shaw really makes every movie he is in so much better. He died far too young. It's indeed the Orient Express Ames and Belgrad was of course the capital of Yugoslavia at the time.

Glad you liked it. Does have a sense of mystery, as you noted. This my 2nd watch. I like it. I like the Sean Connery Bond demeanor. “She had her kicks.” SPECTRE didn’t count on love. I notice that Grant is Quint from Jaws. We had a 24-hour layover in Istanbul one time. I was never into Bond movies, but now I like what I’ve seen – below is a list of when I did a first full watch of every Bond movie I have seen. From Russia with Love (1963) is one of my favorites. 2006 Casino Royale (2006) 2012 Skyfall (2012) 2023-2024 From Russia with Love (1963) Goldfinger (1964) On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969) Live and Let Die (1973) The Spy Who Loved Me (1977) The Living Daylights (1987) Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) Quantum of Solace (2008) Spectre (2015) No Time to Die (2021)
