Happy Saturday!

I loved this film! I think it’s a great sequel to the original, and love a Roger Deakins/Dennis Villeneuve collab so so much! I also think Ryan Gosling was truly incredible in this, with a soft boyish charm, and subtle yet powerful acting. I loved being back in this world. I think they were able to make this film its own and build off the original. Loved seeing Deckard back! Cool story continuation, and character development!

Let me know your thought’s!

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

I blurred something I said. I didn’t feel I expressed my thoughts correctly and so I felt comfortable not including it.

One element most people miss, when when Joe takes the wooden horse to be analyzed we find out how valuable wood is. The analyst offered Joe a real horse for it. When we see inside Wallace headquarters it is all wood showing the amount of decadence.

I’ll admit that while I liked this movie a lot when I saw it in the theater, it didn’t have legs for me. Where I’ve seen Blade Runner around 20 times, I’ve only seen this once. Very well made though. Good film. It was the same way for Doctor Sleep. I liked that a lot as well, but I’ll likely never watch it again. Yet, I’ve watched The Shining a few dozen times. Maybe it’s Villeneuve. He’s an artist to be sure and as I watch his films I’m in awe…..but afterwards I can’t seem to care. The Arrival is the exception, I’ve seen that multiple times. But that movie had characters I could identify with. I can’t identify with Paul Atreides for instance. The Dune films are beautiful to look at, but where is the connection to the audience? All that negative nonsense aside, I’ll definitely watch this reaction.

There are 3 short films you can find on YouTube showing some of the history between the movies.

Gonna first watch your Blade Runner reaction, which I still haven't seen! In fact, I still have never seen Scott's "Final Cut" version so I'll first do that.....then hit 2049! It'll be the weekend of Blade Runner! (or maybe weekend/early week of Blade Runner!)

Love this film! Quite the experience in the theater as well. The first letter of the names of each of the wooden animals that Rick Deckard carved in this movie: Rhino, Antelope, Cat, Horse, Elephant, Lion, spell "RACHEL". The giant Joi in the hologram advertisement was supposed to be her "default" setting, the idea being that "K" customized her voice and appearance to a less sexualized version. The advertisement version of Joi was not voiced by Ana de Armas, but first assistant editor Mary Lukasiewicz. She recorded a temporary voice-over, but the producers decided to keep it in the finished movie.

Some may bristle at this not being directly film related, but in the spirit of men holding men accountable, I think it’s important to mention Leto has a long, long history of ‘alleged’ S.A.; yet he continues to land huge projects. Absolutely a beautiful film though. When he’s on screen I just imagine the supposed first choice for the role, David Bowie, in his place.

I like this movie. The feel, the mood, the look. Great job with the world. Kudos to Roger Deakins on the cinematography. Ryan Gosling great acting. Plus, I am a sucker for Ana de Armas. This and Sicario (2015) are my top 2 Denis Villeneuve. I haven't seen Dune 2 yet -- suspect I will like it. Great reaction including outro.
