Star Trek: TNG S3xE12 "Higher Ground"

Janeway knows

That was great Ames, dr crusher out ranks everyone in medical matters, Gates Mcfadden does fence, and clearly back in season 1 Dr Crusher is the only one who casually carried a phaser on ship. Finn was more bad than good. Next week is fun

This episode was another Star Trek morality play. It parallelled the Troubles happening in Northern Ireland at the time. This episode was banned by the UK because it implied that terrorism was an effective tool in bringing about Irish unification. Also, Ames is now my favorite android!!

"B*TCH SHOT WORF!!!" Great unfiltered reaction 🤣 this is definitely another one of those often overlooked but better than it looks episodes. It does a good job exploring that both sides are right both sides are wrong without taking a side itself. Even poses the question of is there such thing as being truly neutral question.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Another very solid episode. Good guest star. Good episode for Beverly/GMcF. Asking big picture Star Trek type questions about societal stuff etc If I had to pick very minor nits with it, it feels kinda same-y after last week's ep. Both featuring a guest star who plays a likeable villain who is still capable of awful things, who is a criminal/terrorist/freedom fighter and the whole thing is a kind of grey area, asking questions about the place of violence and the military in society etc Again, not that I'm saying I dislike the episode but I feel like they are both done a bit of a disservice with the back-to-back placing. I wish they'd waited a week or two before dropping this one. Great reaction as always though, A. As always can't wait for next week 🖖

Good episode. Even better to come. As Joe mentioned below, this episode was banned in the UK b/c of the reference to the IRA. Another episode in which Wesley helped save the day. I liked how aggressive physically Riker, Worf, and Picard when needed to be. The guest star did kind of resemble that guy from The Nanny. Agree seems to be some sort of chemistry between Beverly and Picard? Your Data eyes are striking. May could be a new look for you. Liked your try at Data hat.

I saw that data’s poker hat sold for $6000 USD in 2006 in an auction. I love the Data impersonation at the beginning. I really didn’t like this episode when I was a kid, because it didn’t feel like Star Trek, but it’s grown on me because it explores some heavy stuff and presents both sides of the conflict with human qualities.

I’m watching this on Halloween (catching up on all your reactions) and wasn’t expecting to see such a fire costume! I appreciate your enthusiasm and analysis of Trek. 🖖
