STAR TREK: TNG S3xE15 "Yesterday's Enterprise"

this and the next episode (The Offspring) are two of my favorite TNG episodes of the whole series. SO well written, SO well executed.... Christopher McDonald was great in the role of Castille (I laughed my ass off when you said the happy gilmore line!!).

Janeway knows

Great reaction to such an epic episode

I have a DVD set that collects episodes of Alternate Realities across the franchise and it's been watched often, especially the disc this in on lol In regards to the Bridge design it reflects a Starfleet that is at war with the Klingon Empire. The Enterprise-D in this timeline is a warship, and its bridge layout is designed for maximum efficiency in combat situations, with additional stations and a more austere, tactical design compared to the standard exploration-focused bridge of the original timeline.

Shooter McGavin as a good guy! I feel like this episode is sort of the writers realizing how badly they handled Tasha's death and fixing that.

We've officially reached peak era TNG. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Confusion is normal and expected, youre supposed to basically be like Guinan's POV, its not right but you dont know why. Their lounge is called 10-Forward, deck 10 forward most section of the deck and I believe the ship (presumably the tip of the saucer section). There's a real subplot that I think is spectacular writing with the core of the klingon empire as a whole respecting honor above all else where the enterprise C having such a major impact into the future relations of the two sides, no surprise Ron D Moore was in the credits on this one.

Definitely one of the best episodes. You gave a good reaction (as usual) – you too hard on yourself. Yesterday’s Enterprise is somewhat convoluted (can be confusing). Denise Crosby's acting as Tasha Yar here was her best. You said “they’re going to kill her off again?!” (We “lose her twice.”) Guinan is a good fit in TNG. The Guinan character adds flavor to TNG. The solid trusting relationship (and respect) between Picard and Guinan is a nice touch. Wesley did look good. Christopher McDonald will always be his character in Thelma & Louise to me. I had to look up "Shooter McGavin" -- I don't know that I've fully watched Happy Gilmore -- though I am sure I would like it. I like Adam Sandler. I had to work late yesterday and thus missed the Live.

There were some great episodes before, but this one knocked it out of the park! Plenty of bangers like this one to come and it's a pleasure to watch along with you.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Top tier episode. Obviously it's great for all the obvious reasons, the storytelling and high stakes drama, the timey wimey-ness, the Tasha Yar of it all, etc. But also as Trek fans we tend to love all the little details and procedural stuff, ranks, ship classes, command structure, whose in charge of what, all of the more military aspects of Starfleet, and we get that in spades this ep what with us spending time in this more war-oriented version of the Federation. Not to mention all of the little differences that are there for us to pick up on. Alternate Wesley in the command red uniform looked particular snappy. When Picard ordered the Enterprise D to stay between the Klingons and the Enterprise C seeing Wes determine and execute his own course corrections was particularly satisfying, to say nothing of Picard's "That'll be the day!" and hop over the railing to work the tactical station. Complete badasses.

Just one thing: Guinan As a secondary character, she’s as fascinating as Mike on Breaking Bad. Just incredibly mysterious, wise, and damn interesting.

I notice that Melissa Snodgrass is credited as "Executive Script Consultant" for this episode. Snodgrass was the former lawyer whose first submitted Star Trek script was season 2's "Measure of a Man." I'm assuming she became a permanent part of the writing staff after that point. It's probably no coincidence that when her name pops up in the credits, the episode is usually great. Also, it's uncanny how a simple change of lighting can make the Enterprise feel so different.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Did anyone else think/notice A's entire body language change after the intro scene and through the theme song? Seemed so on edge trying to figure out what had just happened, literally on the edge of your seat. It's so enjoyable watching a reactor who throws themselves so wholly into the universe that they are so invested in it.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Picard's whole thing is gathering his people around him and asking for their advice. It's so unnerving (in a good way) seeing him basically be all "Here's how it is and y'all are gonna just shut up and do it." All the actors did great.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Watching this as a first timer this episode asks us as the audience to figure out *a lot* and without a lot of context. It's part of what makes it such an excellent ep. Trust me, A, you did just fine putting all the pieces together.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

You're the first reactor I've seen catch the fact that Guinan knew it Tasha before she turned around. I'll stop spamming the comment section now

Ames, I bet if I told you before you watched this that in the next episode 1) Tasha would have a love story, 2) Riker would die, and 3) Guinan would be telling Picard what to do and he’d listen, you would have never believed me.

A YT edit of the episode would likely get a decent number of views. One of the most famous/popular TNG episodes. Of course, the YT comments would probably be replete w/spoilers.

Yes. Great reaction. Thanks!

Million things to say about this episode, but many have said them already. It's just so dang good. The scene between Picard en Guinan is so good. I'll drop 3 funny tidbits. - Patrick Stewart wore lenses to make his eyes darker in the alternate time line. - The captain's chair wasn't raised to make it look more ominous, but to facilitate Stewart being able to jump over the console when he takes over tactical. - The episode won an Emmy for sound editing. The ambient sound was also different in many ways and at one point you can hear Lieutenant Barrett being paged in the background, which was an homage to Majel Barrett. She is of course ever present on TNG as the computer voice.

Surprises still to come

I wouldn't be surprised if the writers came up with this whole episode just so they can say "YES! WE FINALLY GET TO KILL OFF RIKER!!!"

Ken Schneyer

This is the most satisfying type of time travel story. Kierkegaard said, "Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forward." We yearn to know the meaning of our actions while those actions are happening, so that we can live fully within them and be in harmony with our intent and our impact. We don't get that in real life. But in multiple time-travel stories (this one most of all, but also the Twilight Zone Episode "The Last Flight", and the negative implications of the last two paragraphs of "A Tale of Two Cities"), we get the satisfaction of certainty. Tasha gets to die knowing what her death will mean, and that it will be worth it. We all would want that.

I love this. Watching my favorites with you is a rush . I am glad I can cherry pick the best due to limited time to watch. Giddy 😄
