This was an incredibly stunning film! I am so excited to have seen this! It was a bit of a labour of love because the Criterion Channel, where I watched this, was really struggling to buffer! So FYI, if you are watching it there! I watched the 4K remastered Version that is 1:39:08. Highly recommend the best version if you can because the colour was amazing! I was able to edit a smooth watch a long, sorry for the hiccups!

I am blown away by the filmmaking and storytelling of this film. Each scene was hypnotic and nothing like what I would have guessed or expected, especially going in blind! I highly encourage anyone to watch this! I have been incredibly inspired! Which I heard Wong Kar-wai did to many other filmmakers! I can't wait to hear more about this film, as I haven't looked into it at all since watching it!

Enjoy! And congrats to the winner! Thanks for all your Support on here, my friends!

Great reaction to this stunning film, Ames! This is a mesmerizing work of art that fully exploits the openness of the medium of film. For members who aren't on Criterion Channel, you can access this on YT or Apple TV in Canada and YT, Apple, or Amazon in the US. (Sorry to people in other regions! But you can check Letterboxd for streaming options in your area.) As far as influence goes, Sophia Coppola has cited this as a major influence on Lost in Translation. You can definitely see it in the final scenes of each. Excellent choice, Brent! Thanks!

https://www.criterion.com/films/198-in-the-mood-for-love Go here. Scroll down for digital watch options. I rented on Amazon Prime Video (in the US) and it's the 1:39 Criterion remastered version (even though the description says 1:33). Also, 7 day free trial available for Criterion Channel (I'd used that before).

Simply one of the greatest movies of all time. No movie I can think of captures the feeling of being lonely and longing for someone quite like In The Mood For Love. Expensive watch commercials rip off In The Mood For Love all the time and modern classics like Lost In Translation, Portrait of a Lady On Fire, and Past Lives simply don’t exist without this movie. What an achievement on every aspect of filmmaking. This movie feels like an incredible romantic epic despite being only 100 minutes and taking place mostly in apartment rooms. Wong Kar-Wai made a sequel to In The Mood For Love called “2046” that is really worth watching — especially if you want to stay in Wong’s world of incredible dresses and slow motion cigarettes. I also hope you get to one day watch Chungking Express which is another masterpiece from him.

Another legendary film by the late great Wong Kar-Wai.. I fell in love with Chinese cinema in the 90's with phenomenal directors like Kar-Wai and Zhang Yimou. But the secret sauce for me here is Tony Leung who is China's answer to Cary Grant. Cool, suave, aloof, wickedly intelligent and oozes sex appeal in every role he plays. Look for LUST CAUTION, INTERNAL AFFAIRS and 2046 and you just cant take your eyes off him. Not many actors who can eat up the screen and say volumes when not speaking a word but Tony is definitely one of them....

Really liked the feel and the storytelling in this. Love the idea of them discovering their spouses are having an affair; it's usually told from the other perspective. Hypnotic and definitely I can see it will reward rewatches! Congrats to Brent and thanks for hipping me to this film!

Wong Kar-Wai, Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung need I say more. Words are not enough to describe a film like this. I'd call it a palate cleanser and an excuisite meal in one. Not only it shows what a film can be, but it also rejuvenates you for the next film. You are so immersed in the film, the performances and the music. Then it ends and you think of what to say. Then you realise that no words are needed and that the film said it for you. I feel such joy for those people who have not yet experienced this film and someday will also have this experience. I feel that this is infinitely rewatchable just for the mood of it.
