#22 on the AFI Some Like It Hot (1959) DID NOT disappoint! My fave movie of the year (so far) hahah! No one disappointed in this film, I loved all the performances and Marilyn Monroe truly stole the show. I will say I fell in love with Tony Curtis aswell! What talent and charisma.

There is so much to love about Billy Wilder and what he brings to films! An amazing story teller and what seems to me, a boundary pusher. Go Billy! I love his use of the camera heightening the sharp storytelling. The actors nailed the dialogue and boosted this screenplay with their wonderful performance's. This movie is so much fun, totally threw me because I had no idea what it was about or where it was going (other than perhaps the guy getting the girl). I love how you can let go and lose yourself in these comedies and have such a fun time watching all the chaos unfold. Also- tons of heart in this, which I don’t know why I was surprised, because Wilder is a genius.

I could probably go on but I should post this so I can share with you all! Haha!

Drop your thoughts below!!!

We saw this recently in the theater, brought our daughter who loved it. I’ve seen it about half a dozen times. It’s simply fun and funny. It’s not trying to be anything else. And look!! Men in drag and the world didn’t end 🙄 Marilyn is absolutely honey dripping in this. It’s crazy. Reaction time!

A classic comedy and the perfect antidote to frigid January weather.

I've long thought Tony Curtis is an underrated actor. Keeping up one end of a comedy duo with Jack Lemmon is no mean feat. I remember many years ago watching him in The Persuaders with Roger Moore, and thinking it should be illegal for two actors to have so much fun.

Such a great movie, very funny, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon were great together. Marilyn Monroe was great, I do believe she is not given enough credit for her acting. I know she was type casted and that was a problem for her. But she lights up the screen. Billy Wilder had some great movies. Not sure if you seen Double Indemnity (1944) The Lost Weekend (1945) Sabrina (1954) The Seven Year Itch (1955) Also with Marilyn Monroe Witness for the Prosecution (1957)

The chemistry between Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in this film is outstanding. They really do seem like two guys with an antagonistic relationship who are nonetheless best buds. Although I would prefer Gentlemen prefer Blondes and The Seven Year Itch as movies featuring Marilyn Monroe, she really does show a lot of natural comedic talent in Some Like it Hot, and of course looks stunning. The scene with Sugar crying was quite poignant, but I think that was partly because of a sadness I felt for Marilyn herself. I remember placing my hand in the handprint she made in front of the old Grauman's theater when I visited Hollywood about ten years ago. Hers appeared far darker than any of the other imprints made, an indication that far more people had touched her marker than any other Hollywood star. She had an "it" factor that was profound. Great reaction Ames!

Marilyn Monroe was a MUCH better actress than people give her credit for. She had a hard time in Hollywood getting cast in parts that weren't simply dumb blonde stereotypes. The studio system, I'm afraid, wasn't kind to her at all. But if you want to see Marilyn in more of a straight role, where she can really show her acting chops, try watching either "Don't Bother to Knock" (1952) or "The Misfits" (1961). They're both great.
