Star Trek: TNG S3xE23 "Sarek"

Enjoyed watching your reaction to this episode. Agree good acting by Patrick Stewart. I like how Picard and Beverly can be be personal. Close. You became emotional. Understandably so. TOS fans (which I am one) like this episode. Nostalgia. Crossover. The express revelation of Sarek loving Spock is awesome. As I have said a few times, the No. 1 reason (not the only reason) I became addicted to TNG when watching TNG as it aired was Picard. Like you said, Picard did have immense respect for Sarek. "We shall always retain the best part of the other - inside us."

“This was on a lot at my Grandmas growing up” is the most aggressively combative thing Ames has ever said on this channel 😡😡 lol j/k Great reaction. I love episodes that deal with Vulcans, and I think it’s because I identify with them from a core level. As youth we are taught to suppress our emotions and as adults we’re encouraged to open up to them. It’s a constant balancing act, sometimes struggle, and I feel it’s very well represented by how the Vulcans are written. And also how Picard was written as a character. Three more episodes til the season finale! BOOM goes the dynamite! 💥 🧨

Great reaction. I like this episode. There is no bad guy, but only people trying to care for someone close. They show how difficult it is to slowly lose your mental capabilities because of disease. It's brutal for all involved. Patrick Stewart amazing as always. However, I would also compliment Mark Lenard. I enjoyed his portrayal of Sarek over the years in TOS, movies and now this episode. He convincingly showed the vulnerable side of Sarek. The scene between Sarek and Picard where Picard battled him with his own weapon, logic, was equally powerful as it was sad. On a side note. You were out of focus for a good while. I'm assuming you are using a dslr. Since you are always the same distance from the camera you can try and set it up with manual focus. But often is quite good tho.

Another amazing TNG 3rd season episode... and Sir Patrick Stewart kills it yet again (No spoilers, but he will pretty much at least once or twice in each seasons yet to come, so buckle-up!)

Aside from the obvious, the mind meld scene, PS's acting, and just an all around banger episode, there's a couple other things I'd like to point out that I quite enjoy: Some subtle foreshadowing part way through the episode. Picard talking about how he wished he got the chance to pick Sarek's brain, as it were, and then the mind meld 😬 Picard's reverence for Sarek really adds to the emotional weight of it all. The dialogue during the mind meld scene. Obvs PS's acting is top notch but shout out to the writers also. How it's written from Sarek's perspective etc just really great stuff

Top tier episode! I've always wondered if Picard now has some Kirk memories in his mind too, since Sarek and the admiral had a previous mind meld in Star Trek III. Maybe Picard has Kirk's memory of Spock's death??!!

A fantastic episode! You're absolutely right about both bringing Mark Lenard back as Sarek in such a vulnerable and, dare I say it, emotional way, and also Sir Patrick's masterful and heartbreaking performance. As an aside, and without spoilers, the next episode features a character already seen twice before but in episodes you didn't watch - S1 Ep10: Haven & S2 Ep19: Manhunt. If you have the time, you'll appreciate the next one more if you've seen them, but no pressure!

Awesome! You losing your mind in the best way was on my Bingo card for this episode and you did not disappoint. Love ya!

Janeway knows

This in the long run is good for Picard so much even the writers never quite noticed

This was the first mention of Spock in the series. They had to fight to get it in, because the higher ups including Roddenberry wanted TNG to stand on its own.
