The FIRST "R" rated movie I ever saw! Needless to say the theatre was in hysterics as were my rowdy teenaged neighbors who snuck me into it. Hollywood is REALLY missing great comedic Directors these days. Gone are the Harold Ramis's, The Bob Clarks, The Ivan Reitmans and the John Landis's... Used to be whenever you saw their name attached to a movie you KNEW you were in for a good time... Now? No one I can think of to fill the void.... (sorry. NOT a fan of We Anderson)

Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son.

Catherine O’Hara 😞

Loved the reaction, but it's a shame you didn't stay all the way through to the end of the credits.

In addition to Harold Ramis, the screenplay was written by National Lampoon editor Doug Kenny (Stork in the fraternity) and Chris Miller (Hardbar, standing next to Stork blocking the view of the Parade), based on a short story written by Miller for the magazine.

Jon Anderson

I love John Vernon as the Dean. It takes a worthy adversary to hold this story together. Vernon was one of those actors who cut his teeth on CBC dramas before moving south to work in the movies, and he built a whole career out of playing villains and shady authority figures. He could do it seriously, but it's so much fun to see him ham it up.

I remember watching a heavily censored version of this movie on NBC as a nine year old and laughing my ass off. Over forty years and many views (of the uncensored version) later and it is still hilarious! I was a huge Belushi fan as a kid, and this is one of his most memorable roles. The cafeteria scene is one of my favorites of all time! Nedermeyer is a classic character, and is head of what is supposed to be the Faber College ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps). It is a program of the U.S. Military that provides college students officer training for future military service. (My Dad was in it prior to serving in the Army.) BTW, the tune that Eric Stratton is whistling is the theme from Peter and the Wolf. This is in my top five favorite comedies and is an ultra-quotable film. Great reaction Ames! Thanks!

National Lampoon was a satirical magazine created as an outgrowth of Harvard University's satirical Harvard Lampoon. It was written by Harvard alums and comedy geniuses, Ramis, Kenney and Miller, who based it on their college experiences. God help us. Kenney and Miller have a cameo as the two parade viewers who won't let the kid stand in front of them. You know many of these actors;: Katie was in Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Scrooged. D-Day was the sheriff in My Cousin Vinnie and a Senator in Legally Blonde 2. Tom Hulce, who is the main character, was Mozart in Amadeus. And so on. Oh, and the 13 year old lolita is the Irish waitress in Caddy Shack.

That reaction was a frickin' BLAST!!!!

Saw this when it came out in theaters. I hadn't heard a crowd laugh so hard since Blazing Saddles.

We loved this movie in high school. Enjoyed the rewatch. Thanks for the reaction. My uncle subscribed to National Lampoon magazine, which I would read. Me and high school friends would get together every Saturday night to watch SNL having the early cast (e.g., John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, etc.). I don’t think I’ve heard you tell your ‘grad kidnapping’ experience story before – sounds wild.
