Star Trek TNG S4xE1 Best of Both Worlds Part 2

Excellent reaction! They're firing on all cylinders from this season on with some top notch Sci-Fi. Some trivia: While the Battle of Wolf 359 went unseen due to budgetary reasons, portions of the battle were recreated two and a half years later in the Series Premier for Deep Space. To this day, we have yet to see the battle in its entirety in universe. the JTVFX YouTube channel has done their own recreation but it's best not to watch it right now because of huge spoilers lol

I like how the episode maintained the intensity from the previous episode. Great reaction, as usual. You are a Data fan and protective. Hard watching Picard like that - but he struggled to come out -- and first thing, he complements Riker. As you may have deciphered, in the first part of the episode, Worf and Data went in the shuttle to get close (within the Borg protective EM field) to be able to transport (beam) onto and off the Borg.

Hi. Some trivia about these 2 episodes: - These 2 parts, weren't shot back to back. - Michael Piller, the writer of Part 1, didn't know if he wanted to continue in Star Trek. So when he wrote Part 1, there were no Part 2 planned by him. At the time, he thought someone else would handle how to get out of the deep sh*t the crew was in. He ended coming back and wrote Part 2. - Also Patrick Stewart hadn't sign for season 4... So they left Part 1, with the door open for Riker to be the captain and Shelby his first officer for season 4 and beyond. in case Stewart didn't sign... - Patrick Stewart told a story of being "intercepted" by fans, between the 2 parts... They claimed he had ruined their summer lol. They had to wait for 3-4 months or so, to know what was going to happen...

Awesome reaction Ames!! I had to watch it during my lunch hour! The Best of Both Worlds Part 1 originally aired on June 18, 1990. What a cliffhanger!! Part 2 originally aired 98 days later on September 24, 1990. Fans had to endure 14 weeks of agonizing suspense between the airings of the two parts!! ***** SPOILERS BELOW FOR THIS EPISODE, (NOT FUTURE EPISODES) ***** While I loved every part of this episode, Guinan's part particularly stood out to me. GUINAN: I will let him go. And you must do the same. There can only be one captain. RIKER: It’s not that simple. This was his crew. He wrote the book on this ship. GUINAN: And the Borg know everything he knows. It’s time to throw that book away. You must let him go, Riker. It’s the only way to beat him. The only way to save him. And that is now your chair. Captain. Chills!!!

Star Trek has a reputation for being really well scored overall, but these two episodes specifically the music is particularly good. The soundtrack during the Borg battle/rescue mission is hype as fuck. As they're rolling up on the battlefield/ship graveyard at Wolf 359 Shelby starts listing off some of the destroyed ships. The Melbourne was 1) The lead vessel commanded by Picard's admiral friend and 2) the ship that Riker would have been commanding had taken that promotion 😬

It is no spoiler to say that there are so many incredible episodes this season. Don’t worry about a quality dip. We’re in the mini-movie era with the show.

Geordi to Worf "Just the man I need" re: fixing the shields. It's nice to see Worf's technical knowledge recognized as the Tactical Officer and not just the guy that pushes the button that says "shoot."

Alan Kobb

He never won a Tony for itid (won the Drama Desk)., however While Trek was on Stewart dd a 1-man presentation of A Christmas Carol where he played all 40 roles in the show.

Robert Durant

Picard was looking out the window at the end because he was reflecting on what was done to him and how he was used to kill probably thousands of officers and crew mates of the other Starfleet ships. This tragedy becomes a major staple of his character for many years to come.

Hold Down A

Hey Guys! Thanks for your comments, but I haven’t been able to read comments without having it checked first due to some leaving spoilers - so if you have any details listed in ur comments regarding the future of characters or shows please refrain from them, please edit your comment or delete and repost. I really do not want any hints at any spoilers. It ruins the journey and reaction for me. Thanks I appreciate it.

Locutus, French for ‘the cute butt’, is essentially the Boba Fett of Star Trek. A small part of one episode and then some of the other, yet every Star Trek fan knows who he is. It’s a testament to the writing, the costume design (I mean, come on, the red light shining at you when he speaks? Incredible), and of course Patrick Stewart’s acting. Loved this reaction. You’re one of us now, nerd. Kidding about the French thing. 😏

Janeway knows

I think protecting against spoilers should count if you know there will be a call back to an episode Ames hasn’t seen, if she wants to know she will ask

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Folks, there's just so much to talk about within each episode as we watch them there's just no reason to ever mention anything else. Keep it within "this" episode each week and we'll all be happy.

So I watched some TOS and TNG as a child, for us it was more ‘oh Trek is on, lets watch it’, not severe fans but I did remember large portions of 40-60 TNG episodes and the Voyage home. In my early twenties my stepdad watched Enterprise so I watched it with him. Then I found Voyager a couple years later and fell in love, I got the DVDs and watched it several times before reconnecting with TNG also through DVDs, then a few years later DS9, so I had no one telling me how this universe worked, by the time I got back to TNG and then DS9 I might have accepted enough of the Trek universe that most things people wonder watching TOS and TNG the first time never occurred to me. There is a lot about the Trek universe I just agreed to accept when choosing to watch, but crucially, no one told me details, I watched through multiple times before people on line started telling me anything about behind the scenes, or who is important why or what season is good, or any names of anything in the future, or how warp drive works, or anything else. If some of you didn’t have that, I am sorry. Lets give that to Ames as much as we can. (There are things I knew about DS9 before I got there which is bittersweet).

No words just joy !
